You could try using the Displace filter after converting the Text to a Pixel layer. This filter is only in Photo.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

@Samweow A lot depends on what sign material you are using, whether you are "writing" on that material, using raised letters, etc. I agree with @Old Bruce on the Displace Filter, especially if you want the text to blend in more with the texture of the sign material and show a bit more "distress" and tonal differences in the text. You can also try different Layer Blending Modes. If letters are raised, highlights and shadows will make text look more realistic (not appropriate for your posted example, however).

First, I'd "skew" or distort the text (in your example), so the verticals align more with the right and left edges of the sign (more or less, depending on whether you want it to look hand-drawn or professional printed. You can do that using the Transform Panel, or using the 'skew arrows' on the bounding box, or the Perspective Filter (see Affinity Photo Help). If the writing was done with something like markers, you'd probably have some fuzzier/rougher edges and irregularity in the text, so you could try a mild blur, then even try adding some noise. You can also add texture overlays with various blend modes.

Just a few of many possible ideas. Depends on the look you are trying to achieve.

@carl123What AI are you using? I tried asking ChatGPT but it gave me shitty instructions

With Affinity, you don't need an AI

(file attached but you may not have the font I used)
