Randomly my Affinity Publisher app will not launch when I click on the shortcut.

Weirdly, Designer and Photo both load without any problem.

I have tried restarting my PC multiple times. I have tried reinstalling Publisher twice.

Any ideas for a fix?

Hi @Chris Dyer and welcome to the forums,

Possibly a factory reset of Publisher by holding the Ctrl key while launching the app. When you see the Clear User Data screen, leave the first option ticked and untick the second and third options, click the Clear button, let Publisher finish launching (assuming it will), and see whether that fixes the problem…

Note 1: A factory reset will reset any customisation you’ve made to the tools panel and context toolbar.

Let us know if that works or whether you still have the same problem...

Hi @Chris Dyer,

Just to be clear you need to hold the Ctrl Key while launching the app until the Clear User Data screen appears, which may be what you are already doing but just wanted to double-check...

I'm not getting the Clear User Data screen when I click the Ctrl key. It never appears.

Merely clicking the Ctrl key is insufficient. You need to press it and hold it down first, continuing to hold it down while you launch the app. The normal response to that sequence is for the app’s ‘Clear User Data’ dialog to appear, at which point you can release the Ctrl key and complete the sequence of actions that @Hangman has described. If that doesn’t work for you then the app has clearly(!) got into an abnormal state.

Hi @Chris Dyer,

Try the following process to reset the app's local user data manually:

  1. Close all affinity apps
  2. Press WIN + R to open 'Run'
  3. Enter the following Command: %USERPROFILE%
  4. Open the '.affinity' folder
  5. Rename the 'Publisher' folder to 'Publisher.old'
  6. Launch Publisher 2

If the above doesn't work try a full factory reset by renaming the root '.affinity' folder to '.affinityold'

Just downloaded trial versions of Affinity Publisher 2 and Photo 2. Neither will launch. I'm not a computer techy but I can read and follow instuctions quite well. Have tried both the suggested solutions to no avail. Any other possible solutions would be appreciated. (At least I haven't paid yet!)

Hi @Percy24 welcome to the forums,

Could you confirm/provide the following:

  • What specific stage is the app crashing at? E.G Creating a new document or during initial loading
  • Which installation method have you used? (MSIX or MSI/EXE)
  • Can you provide a few recent crash reports?

Where to find crash reports:

Many thanks
