I have brushes that are assigned to be erasers only associated tools). But when I go back to regular brush that doesn't have an associated tool it stays as an eraser. Not a big deal but is this normal behavior?

If you have the Erase Brush Tool selected/active, and you use the Brushes panel to switch to a different Brush that does not have an associated tool, then it seems reasonable to me (and expected) that you would stay on the Erase Brush Tool.

So I would say yes, it's normal behavior. Otherwise, you would never be able to freely choose brushes to use for erasing, as they would always switch to some other tool.

Yes! it does... I have raised this before...This has bugged me for years!..... I think the problem is that the settings [Erase Mode | Wet Edges |Associated Tool] can be assigned but are not reset on brush deselection (sort of part of the brush 'design') if activated in the Brush Dynamics | Context Toolbar. So if you activate say Eraser as Associated tool on a brush within the Brush Panel or Category then it does not get reset by selecting the next brush...I believe that this is by default and 'normal behaviour' but it should be considered when you design brushes

Sort of Solutions | Options
1. When you design your brush category (Brushes) and add selected or created brushes it is worth initially setting the Brush Dynamics in terms of these values to a default position. Such that all brushes sort of should have: Blend Mode: Normal or None | Wet Edges: Off | Associated Tool: No Associated Tool. Otherwise when you have one assigned in brush panel, it will 'stick' on the context toolbar.
2. Omit the Tool associated from general use. I tend to use the 'hot keys' a lot to switch options especially with the Eraser...It it is much mre efficient and quicker. Same for Marquee.. This way you ca quickly go back to painting using a brush. It is not perfect as sometimes you will need a brush with very specific settings. (with exception of opacity (assigned keys available))
3. Just use the Context bar to change the options ..remember to reset afterwards!
4 If assign a Context for brush use try tuning off Auto-scroll + Auto-swich Category & Enable Associated tools from the Brush Menu
5. Try to keep Brush Categories small..This way if you loose control of the settings it is much easier to rectify

6. Blend Mode Keys available as from 2.1
7. Action Keys
