paleolith
Often it's easiest to Select All in Word, then Paste without formatting in Publisher. Then you can assign text styles in Publisher with no interference from any styles brought from Word. pioneer, Old Bruce and Catshill 2

I can open these files in PagePlusX9 with no problem. Fortunately I have word on my PC but I know of several other members of our group that does not. Quote AMD Ryzen 7 5800 X. paleolith
Anyone with a Microsoft account -- doesn't have to be paid -- can use Word for the Web to open a .doc file and export it as .docx. There are also a slew of websites offering to do the conversion, but I have not looked into whether I would trust any of them with private data. PaulEC
Or, if you don't have Microsoft Office, just install LibreOffice (free). https://www.libreoffice.org/ Quote Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz : 32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad "Beware of false knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance." There's nothing surprising about older software, like PPX9, opening an older file format like .doc. Newer versions of Word use .docx, not .doc and that's what newer software, like Affinity Publisher, supports. (You might assume that .doc and .docx are similar, but they are actually very different. – .doc is a proprietary, binary file format, whilst .docx is an xml based open file format.)
