We can import .DOCX files and we cannot import .DOC files.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Is there a technical reason for this? I can open these files in PagePlusX9 with no problem. Fortunately  I have word on my PC but I know of several other members of our group that does not.

Anyone with a Microsoft account -- doesn't have to be paid -- can use Word for the Web to open a .doc file and export it as .docx.

There are also a slew of websites offering to do the conversion, but I have not looked into whether I would trust any of them with private data.

Or, if you don't have Microsoft Office, just install LibreOffice (free). https://www.libreoffice.org/

There's nothing surprising about older software, like PPX9, opening an older file format like .doc. Newer versions of Word use .docx, not .doc and that's what newer software, like Affinity Publisher, supports. (You might assume that .doc and .docx are similar, but they are actually very different. – .doc is a proprietary, binary file format, whilst .docx is an xml based open file format.)
