Mouse pointer disappearing when back from another app

Recommended Posts

Affinity Photo v2.5.6 on Intel Mac with Monterey 12.7.6. Apple Magic Trackpad 2.

1. After working in APhoto switch to a different app. Apparently, any app.

2. Switch back to APhoto.

The mouse pointer disappears. To make it appear again, you have to switch to something else (maybe the Finder). When returning to APhoto, it is still shown.

This doesn't happen always, but quite frequently. I can't see a pattern of an app that may be triggering this behavior. I don't remember if this also happens with the other Affinity apps.

For what it is worth I see this on my Mac OS 12.7.6

However I don't see Affinity Photo being a/the trigger, I can have it happen to me when I haven't run any Affinity application that session. Note that I do have a Wacom graphics tablet installed.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

No drawing tablet permanently connected, here. Not while seeing this issue. It only happens to me with APhoto (dunno the other Affinity apps).

Hi @PaoloT,

Could you confirm the following:

- How are you switching between apps? E.G CMD + TAB, Trackpad Gesture, left clicking in dock

- What state is the app window in? E.G Fullscreen, Resizable

- Might be a bit tricky if it's not a persistent issue, but could you try capturing it in a screen recording?

Thanks!

Nathan, thank you for your answer. I'll try to capture the event if I can. In the meantime, here are the easier answers:

- Switching from the other app to APhoto happens for sure by clicking the icon in the Dock, or a window in Photo. It is not Cmd-Tab, because the other app I'm using the most these days is Parallels Desktop running a Mac virtual machine, and it is not possible to use that key combination to exit from Parallels.

- None of the apps is in full screen. All of them have flowing windows. It happens for sure when Photo has floating windows in it. I'm not sure it happens when there is only the main window in it (it may be, but at the moment I'm not sure).

Thanks for confirming, I've discussed this internally with the QA team and if the other app you're switching to is Parallels, it may be Parallels which is causing the problem. In the VM Config -> Mouse and keyboard you could try switching between the Mouse Optimise/Auto-detect settings as well as the 'Cursor sticks at edge' setting under Advanced to see if this has any impact.

A quick Google search reveals that there are quite a few examples relating to cursor visibility issues and Parallels.
