Corrupt File MacOS

Recommended Posts

Hi @marino052 and welcome to the forums.

The file does appear to be corrupted and none of the usual tricks will open it for me. You may have to wait for Serif to have a chance to review it but it's possible it's not recoverable.

What you should probably do first of all is make sure you save multiple copies/versions of your file as backups. E.g.,  first you save dragoslogo.afdesign. Then after you've made some changes you Save As dragoslogo2.afdesign. Then after some more you Save As dragoslogo3.afdesign.

You should also make sure you're saving on a local disk, and not one managed by a cloud service (OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive, etc.).

Exporting a PDF can also be worthwhile, but it should be a secondary protection method and should not be your primary protection method.

It should not be this difficult, but for some reason it is :(

I might go so far as to suggest an even more robust backup method:

  1. First save dragoslogo.afdesign.
  2. Next time, Save As dragoslogo2.afdesign and Save As a second time as dragoslogo2a.afdesign.
  3. Now you're working in a file named dragoslogo2a.afdesign.
  4. Use File > Open and try to open dragoslogo2.afdesign (while keeping dragoslogo2a.afdesign open). If you can open dragoslogo2.afdesign, great. Close the tab with dragoslogo2a.afdesign and optionally delete that file.

  5. Next time you save, repeat steps 2, 3, 4 but this time Save As dragoslogo3.afdesign and also as dragoslogo3a.afdesign.

  6. Keep incrementing the numbers, and using File > Open to verify that the file saved correctly.

You can check and see if you can restore your file with Time Machine.

Just so you know, the recommendation is still to store them locally, and later copy or synchronize them to the NAS. I haven't personally had issues saving to and using from a NAS, but other users have reported problems.
