Polish dictionary for Affinity Publisher 2

Recommended Posts

I am having trouble with pl-PL dictionary for Affinity Publisher 2

I have downloaded hyph_pl_PL.dic , pl_PL.aff and pl_PL.dic* from https://github.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries/blob/master/pl_PL/ and put them in the

C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Common\2.0\Dictionaries\pl-PL catalogue

Now it underlines every single word in Polish and shows it as misspelling. I am not sure what I have done wrong or missed.

For sure it detects the existence of Polish language, but that's all I can confirm

*also tried with pl-Pl naming

Welcome to the Affinity forums.

There are two likely possibilities:

  1. You downloaded them in the wrong format. It is very easy to download them as files with HTML content rather than plain text from GitHub. I suggest, where possible (as in this case), downloading them from the FAQ that Serif provided where they also provide dictionaries in the 3rd post of the FAQ:
  2. Or, you downloaded them in the correct format, but you changed the Dictionary folder specification in the application Settings. You should not change that; leave it as:

3. Or you did not select Polish for the text.

You don't need to set hyphenation language - leaving it on Auto will choose Policy hyphenation if spelling is set to Polish.

The only reason to change it from Auto is if you want to use a different hyphenation language than the spelling language defaults to. For example, if Spelling = English Canada then hyphenation will default to English US which you may or may not want.

Thank you! I started over and found out I made a typo (files were correct but the folder wasn't). The fact that it was showing Polish language in the language list was misleading and I focused my efforts on the file instead of the folder.
