miss_mys
Hi, I recently bought the whole package and have finally been able to download. I've started with Photo since it's the one that I use the most. I read through all the info. even the "Why are we using the MSIX for Windows installers?" Article and thought that my systems (all system info in attached doc) was good to go. So I used the "affinity-photo-2.5.3" version, ran it and had left it set to once done, launch, but nothing happened. Double clicked the icon again (shown on attached doc) but still nothing. Typed Affinity in to my startup menu box and saw it listed (also shown on attached doc) but still nothing happened. Closed out all my windows and restarted, once it finished, I retyped Affinity in my start up and waited because the wheel started spinning so I was hopeful but it popped up an error dialog box instead (also shown in the attached doc). Tried to find the info in the forums to no avail and online it said something about mixing 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Window and applications, however, I believed that my system is set to use 64 (also in attached doc) but under CMD it says System32 – THIS CONFUSES ME: Does this mean that I should be downloading the 32bit versions of your apps? Anyhow, I hope I've supplied enough information in the doc, as I'm not sure what to do next, besides maybe just try to download/run the 32-bit version instead. I just don't want to mess anything else up. Thank you for your time and help, S AffinityBugReport-Shari Reyes.docx
walt.farrell
52 minutes ago, miss_mys said: Does this mean that I should be downloading the 32bit versions of your apps? Welcome to the Affinity forums. There are no 32-bit versions of the apps, except for the installers themselves. The actual apps are 64-bit. One of your error messages seems to indicate that you're trying to run the installer a second time, rather than using the Start menu to locate the installed application. What happens if you use the standard Windows Start menu? 53 minutes ago, miss_mys said: So I used the "affinity-photo-2.5.3" version, ran it and had left it set to once done, launch, but nothing happened. I'm a bit puzzled by that, as the current version is 2.5.5, not 2.5.3. miss_mys
Hi Walt, Thank you for such a quick response. So I did try to locate it in my start menu, however, I have to type it in for it to show up, but when I clicked it to launch it, that's when the wheel started spinning and the pop up error showed. As for the 2.5.3 version, that's what downloaded onto my desktop when I selected the MSIX Show I try downloading it again or should I try the MSI/EXE one? walt.farrell
If you click the Windows Start menu, you should have a button in the menu for All Apps (or something like that). Click that, and you should get a scrollable list of all the installed applications. Do you see it in there? For the installer download: What is the URL of the page you downloaded from? Can you show a File Explorer screenshot of the directory you downloaded to, to confirm the file name? miss_mys
So under Start, it automatically begins in the All Programs folder and nothing is listed there, but when I hit the back link at the bottom of the window, Affinity Photo 2 shows up there, but when I select it, it seems like it's going to start but nothing shows up on my screen. Where I downloaded the installer from: I believe is the Affinity Store but here's the actual link: https://store.serif.com/en-us/account/licences/ and it has my liscense number. Clicked from the email that was sent after I purchased it from Affinity. So this is weird, when I did the search on This PC for the File Explorer screenshot you asked for I see this: However, I don't recall downloading the msix files that many times and see that the 2.5.5 version is actually in my Downloads so I actually clicked on the wrong version that was on my desktop. Should I just click on the latest version in my downloads? AffinityFilesScreenshot.docx Edited September 30 by miss_mys
walt.farrell
By the way, when you're showing screenshots, please just paste or drag them into your post as JPG or PNG files. Don't embed them into another document we need to download and open, and one that we need to have another application (Word, LibreOffice, ...) to understand. Please get a screenshot immediately after you click the Windows Start icon in the Taskbar. walt.farrell
What version of Windows are you running, and are you using the standard Windows Start Menu or one of the 3rd-party alternatives? Can you open Windows Settings and show us the detailed Windows info from About? Or run the winver command from a Command Prompt? walt.farrell
Thanks. I have no experience trying to run the MSIX versions on Windows 10. I would probably Uninstall the version you have, download the MSI/EXE version of the installer, and try re-installing using that one to see if it works better for you. miss_mys
Hi Ron, I tried uninstalling the version that I had and reinstalling the 2.5.5 version but I had the same error pop up, do you think you could look over everything I've posted and figure out what I'm doing wrong? I chose msix after reading Affinitys Post reguarding it and really want to make it work. I don't believe that my system is too old or what not, but I'm not an IT person either. If there is any other info. you'd need, please let me know. I'll post it the correct way that Walt asked me too. Thank you for any assistance you can offer. miss_mys
Hi again Walt, I tried uninstalling but still saw the Affinity Photo 2 listed in my windows startup, clicked it, nothing happened so I ran the exe for the MSI/EXE and now there are of them listed: And neither of them work. Not sure what to do or how to do it for that matter. The first version wasn't listed under the uninstall window either so I assumed that it was uninstalled. walt.farrell
I wonder if Start10 is causing the problem. Beyond uninstalling it, so you are using standard Windows 10 facilities, I have no suggestions. Sorry. AiDon
You should try uninstalling Start10 (from Stardock) to see if that makes a difference.
