Hi all,

This morning I happened to incurr into this problem, and none of the affinity apps starts anymore.
I found in this forums other people claiming the seme problem and tried their solution to no avail.
I have Version 2.5.5.2613 (Beta) MSI/EXE install and up to yesterday they worken.
This morning there is the problem.
I tried to reboot, to enable the app in the firewall, to check and unckec the hidded flag in Affinity folder.
Any other suggestion?

Regards.

@Ziomau10, do the retail versions 2.5.3, start? Did you use the MSI/EXE or MSIX for the retail versions?

You should verify in Task Manager that none of the Affinity V2 apps are running. If any are in the Background, use End Task to terminate them. Then start one of the apps and see if it works.

Thanks Ron and Walt ...

To Ron: I installed the retail version and they don't start either

To Wal: Already done, and checked again ... no apps are in background

The point is that in the PC nothing has changed since yesterday (just a reboot with no updates).

I did install a few free fonts I found from yesterday.
Is it possible that a corrupted font chrashes the app with that message?

Thank you for your attention.
Regards.

Yes.

Very unlikely it would give that message.

Have you read this FAQ, and checked the folder(s) listed in the second post?

(I know you said you "checked and unchecked the Hidden flag" but perhaps you didn't do it for the right folder?

Thanks Walt for your suggestions.
Yes I found that topic before opening this new one and followed exactly all the suggestions.
Since I had MSIX installed first and then I decided to switch to MSI (a long time ago) I ended up to have two "affinity" folders ...
I checked the hidden flag on both ...

Yesterday I even:

  • unistalled all applications
  • deleted all affinity folders
  • rebooted the pc
  • reinstalled from all apps
  • started them with Ctrl pressed and cleared everything was present

Still same error.
It's starting to become a problem since I cannon do my work ...

Any other suggestion?
Is there any log file in which further information can be digged?
Thank all.

That is starting to sound like your firewall program is blocking their access. I would suggest checking that again. Or disabling the firewall completely and seeing if that fixes it.

In, for example, %appdata%\Affinity\Photo (for the MSI version of Photo 2) you should find a log.txt file, but I don't know if it will have additional info for this.

Hi all,
thank you very much for your support.

Finally I found the problem, and I want to share here for future reference.
The problem obviously had nothing to do with Affinity applications ....

Suddenly on my PC there was no "localhost" anymore I don't know why or what causes that.
The sympthom was that the command "ping localhost" gives back "General Failure" or "Cannot resolve Host", depending if run as user or as administrator.
In any case there is no connection to localhost, hence no communication bethween apps, and that's why Affinity apps gave that error.

Well, the solution was a little drastic for me, but it worked.
Maybe some steps were not strictly necessary, but here it goes ...

  • Reset the TCP/IP stack -> From an administrator command prompt, type: netsh int ip reset
  • Reboot
  • Reset the firewall -> From windows secutiry app Firewall & network protection, press "Restore firewalls to default"

That worked for me.
Thank you all.
Regards.
