JimBobLaminat
Hi! I just started with Affinity Photo. First of all I am very happy with Affinity Photo. But I am also missing some features that would be very helpful. Usually I shoot in RAW so I can later do some changes with underexposed photos. Thats why I often use the develop window. I really like the overlay feature where you can mask just a piece of your picture. But why can't I change tones while using an overlay? For example I have a photo of a beach shot between some bushes. Since the beach and the water is very light and the bushes are very dark, I would like to lighten up only the bushes but that is not possible. I think it would be very helpful to get a different vignette look or make more vibrant photos. An update to the overlay feature in general would be great. Why can't you invert your overlay? Especially for 'Elliptical' and 'Radial' it would be very helpful. But also a linear overlay for just a straight beam is not possible. Yes I could use a stretched elliptical overlay. But I think it would be way more efficient if there was a beam alternative. Thanks! NotMyFault
When you got more familiar with Photo you will see that all can be done in Photo persona, using selections and/or masks instead of overlays. The Develop Persona is required for a very limited set of functions who actually work differently and better with access to the sensor RAW data, e.g. white point / white balance basic exposure correction to fit lightness into SDR range CA correction The rest can be done better in Photo persona: non-destructively, using layers using selections and masks Using any brush using filters and adjustments If you are really bound to a workflow using overlays in Develop Persona and unable or unwilling to adjust to the newer editing styles, other Apps may be better suited for your needs. Elliptical or radial overlays can be replaced (in Photo persona) by bitmap masks or vector masks using gradient fills, where reversing the gradient is equivalent to inverting an overlay. In addition to NotMyFault's advice I would like to suggest you set the Develop Persona to give a 16 bit output after developing. You will get better results using all the various tools and techniques in the Photo persona than if you use 8 bits for the output from the Develop persona.
