Violetcascade
Hi I’m Violet I make pins using affinity for vectoring the designs for my own creations and a few clients since I’m new to the forums I thought it’d be fun to share These designs were sketched in procreate so I’m just including the affinity portion but if interested I can share some sketches too 😂 they’re messy! the “Strawpurry logo” was entirely done in affinity and then I moved over to affinity to clean and figure out the metal effects, obviously these ones are for social media posting This is what I send to my manufacturer as a PDF I’ve covered the Pantones because there’s some sneaky people on the internet who would take them and potentially mass produce my design 3: Then the manufacturer sends me some very blurry photos (I’ll hopefully be able to update this post later with some better pictures of the samples) Well I hope this was a little interesting! If anyone has any questions on pin making I’m more than happy to answer it’s a super fun thing to do and it’s like collecting a mini gallery! Definitely good if you have limited wall space haha! William Overington
Welcome. Are these like Doll's House size art? One inch to the foot scale. There’s a scale on the sample image of the PDF that Violet would send to the manufacturer, showing that the StrawPurry pin is a little less than two inches wide. Violetcascade
@William Overington haha kind of but I’ve vectored pins that are 4” pieces before So definitely not for wearing/ probably too large for a dollhouse. I design mine to a size so people can choose to wear them or display them, and some people do both in bags called “Ita bags” generally anything over 3” the price for manufacturing gets quite expensive 😅 the backs of the designs have pointy bits like thumb tacks 🤔 i forgot the word for them though

William and I would usually call your products “badges” rather than “pins”, but I think that’s just a difference between UK English and US English. William Overington
I remember that back in the 1950s and early 1960s one could buy, I think from railway station newsagents shops, badges of railway locomotives, most of which had wording saying which locomotive, which badges were, if I remember correctly, a bit more than an inch long and about a third of an inch high. They had a brooch fitting on the back, with a pin about an inch long. So boys and sometimes railway staff would wear one or more on their jacket lapel or their tie. Mostly badges of mainline express passenger locomotives, though some of historical locomotives suck as Rocket and Caledonian 123. How does someone wear one if there are just points like on "thumb tacks" (are they what we in England are known as drawing pins?)? Do you need to order quite a lot or is there a service where you can order just one? William Quote Until December 2022, using a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 in England. Violetcascade
@Alfred yes you can convert RGB to a Pantone but I use a physical Pantone book to match and select my colours as screen colour isn’t very accurate to the colours as all screens displays can be different!
