Footnote numbering across pages

For some reason the footnote numbering restarts from 1 when the article reaches a new page. There must be something basic I'm missing, because this is obviously not supposed to happen.

Changed the "Restart every" to "Story" and fixed it. Quite amazing that "Restart every frame" is the default!!

I have probably seen more books printed where the footnote numbers restart every page, than books where they run continuously. So that default does not surprise me at all.

I would say my experience is the opposite. But I have seen many many books where the numbers are restarted every page. Not sure if there is a style manual for the "restart on every page" option/choice.

Apropos nothing to do with numbering of notes; I have seen books where a single note takes up more than one whole page, starts on page seven, fills page eight and finishes on page nine.

I don't think I've seen one that bad, but almost
