I want to create an asset group of electrical and pneumatic symbols to use in my design work. These symbols exist already from various sources and allthough they can be imported they remain in the original format ? They are simple to make, but time consuming.

The output of my work is training documents or specification documents.

You should be able open them and drag them to a newly created assets category as is.

Ok, I've done a bit of testing and with regards to DWG and possible DXF files, you may have to group the components of each symbol, otherwise you may get a large amount of small curve bits and the easiest way to contain them is in a group prior to making them an asset. This seems to be mainly on text that is converted.

Here is a file in DWG, DXF and SVG formats from the Capital Electra website, thought it might help others to get you a workable workflow.

Import the DXF file and ensure the sanitize option is selected. This will create layer groups.

Best practice then is to select a component and merge the curves into one curve object. (right-mouse click --> Geometry --> Merge Curves

Ideally the final step would be to optimize the curves to reconnect the separate curve segments, but I am unsure if Affinity Designer offers this option.
