cgidesign Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I am searching for a shortcut in APhoto 2.4 on Windows for adjusting the brush flow value. I am not interested in "typing a value on the keyboard" because it can't be mapped to a remote controller. I need something like CTRL + SHIFT + Numpad + / - which I can assign to a remote controller. I know there was no shortcut years ago, but maybe they added it since then? Quote

If you go to ‘Shortcuts’ in Settings and navigate to the Paint Brush Tool section, you’ll find that there are defaults in place for brush hardness and size, and an unassigned ‘Toggle Brush Stabilizer’ option. It really would be better if there were an option for ‘Flow’, and perhaps options for ‘Wet Edges’ and ‘Protect Alpha’, too. The Paint Brush tool Opacity shortcut is [Number keys]. The Paint Brush tool Flow shortcut is [Shift + Number keys]. While the Opacity shortcut keys will work with both the number pad and the number keys, the Flow shortcut keys need to use number keys – they don't work with the number pad. Knowing that ‘Opacity’ isn’t listed under Shortcuts, it should have occurred to me that ‘Flow’ would be absent for the same reason. 🙄 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)

The Paint Brush tool Flow shortcut is [Shift + Number keys]. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately that is exactly not the solution I hoped for. The remote controller does not have number keys, it has spin dials like a scroll wheel on a mouse. E.g. I have set SHIFT + 8 in APhoto to decrease brush size (square brackets don't work in Affinity with German keyboards). On the remote controller I set this combo to a left swing of one of the dials. The dial is then sending a stream of SHIFT+8 signals to APhoto and as a result I get a continous decrease of brush size till I stop the dial spin. It works well and for me it is much faster and more fluent then hitting keyboard buttons. Same for brush hardness: SHIFT+ALT+8 is decrease in my APhoto - on the controller it is assigned to a button + wheel - that also works well (I just wish they would have added a feature to set the % value - actually it is hardcoded to 10% steps instead of being user configurable). But the decision to set the flow in fixed numerical values instead of a continuous plus / minus signal breaks this workflow concept. And that I need to hit shift plus number keys makes it worse because I more or less need two hands for this. As this breaks the flow completely I stick to the flow control in the top panel which is at least less distracting than moving both hands to the keyboard. Is there maybe another hidden trick to solve this? Quote

FWIW, on my Mac with its Apple brand "Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" I can set Flow using Shift & either its number keypad or the number keys. I don't know if it would work on Macs with other brands of keyboards that have number pads, though.
