How to draw insulation easily

Recommended Posts

Typically architects represent insulation with a continuous squiggly line:

Does anyone know of a quick way to do this with Vector? e.g. a vector brush plugin.

I also want to represent polystyrene bead insulation, which is basically small beads within a cavity. The beads need to be shown in a random patter as they are random sizes, something like this:

Again with vectors.

Maybe there is a vector brush plugin that could do these?

I would just make a brush (for the wiggly lines). Once you learn how, which is easy, you might find yourself making all sorts of brushes.

here is a good video on how to do it. It may (or may not) work well for the beads.

Since such pattern usually appear within shapes (not as contour) it might be more efficient to use an bitmap Fill rather than a brush Stroke. Those fills can get scaled, rotated etc. within the area that has it assigned and thus they are also more flexible than the image of a brush that grows/shrinks in size with the stroke width.

You could use a vector asset as a bitmap fill to get the poly effect
Something like this:

poly.zip

You could cover the area with the vector version (scaling etc if necessary). The Square should also tile together. So you can create a larger area
I filled the dots with the 2 graduation swatches. Then the style picker to colour the flat vectors (Useful if you want to mix the colours!)
