Affinity Photo 2 - how does fill work?

[deleted -- I didn't realize that when I opened this in Affinity Photos, it would automatically lock every layer on opening, and I have to unlock the layers for the tools to work. Mods, you can delete this entirely.]

It's great that you found out for yourself. Maybe someone will have the same problem and find your post and the solution you found. Therefore, this posting should remain.

This locking on opening is a Preference. You can change it.

I believe that only applies to importing single layer bitmap files, so I'm not sure what the OP means about AP automatically locking every layer on opening.
