Help fan opens in taskbar, but no window

Recommended Posts

I'm using Publisher and when I click F1 to open the help file, it opens up and displays in the task bar, but there is no window. I've checked both my monitors, I click on the taskbar icon, but the window won't display. I can right click and select close, but that's it. I've tried restarting my computer, but nothing.

Windows 10 23H2

Hi @yoyesiku and welcome to the forums. Possibly Help opened behind the app window so try dragging the main app window around to see if it's lurking there. If not, I don't know the answer and somebody else will have to assist.

But in the meantime, you can view the help through the website (which is generally easier to use) through https://affinity.help.

Cheers

After you click the icon, try Alt+Space which will bring up a small menu. Click Move in that menu, then use the arrow keys and see if you can bring the Help window onto the screen.

The Help window position is stored in
Help.dat
which is in
%AppData%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\Settings

Mine shows
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Settings Display="0" X="306" Y="115" Width="1121" Height="781" State="Normal" />

you might find something strange and reset it

Edit:

Plan B
With Publisher not running I renamed the Help.dat file, started Publisher, pressed F1 and the file was recreated so just delete it

AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\Settings>dir /B help.*
Help.dat
Help.OLDdat
