verson 2.4 will not load a NEF file without crashing

Recommended Posts

When I try to open a NEF file (from a Nikon D4) the screen says file loading' and then the program ends and I am back at the desktop. I am running a Dell laptop with Windows 10. Previously I edited photos from the same camera an everything worked. Now it doesn't. I tried uninstalling the program and installed version 2.3 and experienced the same issue.

Hi @pasvorto and welcome to the forums,

Are you able to upload a sample NEF file so we can take a look? There should be no issues opening the files so there may be something else going on...

Hi @pasvorto,

I've just opened your file on macOS without issue so I very much suspect the issue isn't with v2.4.0 but hopefully another Windows 10 user can see whether they are also able to open your file in 2.4.0...

Works for me too without any crashes.

Opened the file plainly in Photo, as well as making a preset file and dropping it on.
Also dropped it in a Publisher and a Designer document.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19044 Build 19044). Don't ask why. :)

I uninstalled it and went to the Serif site, redownloaded it and reinstalled. Same issue.

What version of the installer did you download (e.g., what was its filename)?

While it is certainly possible that no crash reports are created, in that case the directory will still be there, just empty. So if you're not finding the directory (as indicated in your prior post) then you're probably looking in the wrong place.

It is still crashing when trying to open NEF file.

And are you getting any crash reports in %appdata%\Affinity\Photo\2.0\CrashReports\reports

Thanks. That often happens to me, too, on one of my PCs, and I've never figured out why.
