knife tool on ipad

hey, when i cut an imbedded image using the knife tool on affinity designer, the image disappears.

please refer to the video. 

i don’t know if i’m using it right or if there’s any tricks, please guide me

The Knife tool is for cutting vector shapes not pixel layers. Use the selection tool if you want to dissect a pixel layer.

You can 'Convert to Curves' a raster layer, which will give you a vector object with a bitmap fill, but if you then cut that object with the Knife Tool there's no easy way (as far as I can see) to restore the filled pieces to their original appearance. In CraftArtist and DrawPlus, Serif's legacy vector applications, converting to curves gives you a rectangle with a bitmap fill, and when you cut the rectangle into two or more pieces you get the appropriate parts of the fill in each piece.

Doesn't geometry "add" work on iPad like it does on desktop?

I'm afraid I obviously wasn't clear! I wasn't talking about restoring the rectangle, I was talking about positioning the fill bitmap so that you see the appropriate portion of it in each piece. However, your question prompted me to look again, and it's simply a matter of selecting all of the pieces and repositioning the fill so that it sits in the centre and covers the entire selected area: not quite automatic, but not too bad.

Ah , yes, that is also the way on desktop with the gradient/fill tool.
To make it not cover the whole selection simply reapply the bitmap fill without touching the handles.

This is what Alfred meant, I never knew about it and I’m still not sure if it is of much use but I guess it depends on your use case.

Hi Alfred, I could not get my head around the converting to curves bit but understood what you meant about bitmap fill, was very surprised it just worked !

I feel you may have uncovered a “crossover” between pixel and vector work that was never intended but yet may have future uses, well done !

I’m afraid I can’t rightfully claim any credit for it, Paul. As I indicated in my first post to this thread, it was something I found out about as a DrawPlus/CraftArtist user; however, the method wasn’t discovered by me.
