How to shear shapes with handles?

Recommended Posts

Shear works with an Apple Pen but finding the invisible spot outside the shape that activates it is almost impossible and amazingly annoying. Impossible to work with.

Sorry, I did miss the section (iPad) where the post is. The above instructions are for the desktop versions. I believe there's no way to do it vertically on iPad without a mouse or trackpad/apple Pencil paired with it. Let me check if this is logged as a bug/omission...

I have pencil with hover feature and it still doesn’t change the handle icon. I can see it changes to shear icon with mouse but it doesn’t shear the shape, I think it’s a bug.

I located the invisible spot, as i hover over it the info at bottom said “drag to shear” but when I tap the screen it scale the shape instead. i guess the touch spot is very small and it detects it as scale and not shear

@agusugian I've already logged these issues:
- no way to to vertically skew/shear an object using the fingers
- no visual cues for switching to skew/shear when hovering the middle handles of a bounding box.
Thanks for raising them.

And thank you for responding to this. I just want to update that shear with mouse is working fine after i turn off “touch for gesture only”.

The key to shear with apple pencil is, first make sure shape is selected in layers panel, then you need to do a single tap near the edge you want to shear, then you can do the shear action. Quick demo

That seems to work, but phew Serif, there is a desperate lack of feedback and visual hints in the interface of what is possible and what is happening. You need to know if that single tap activated shear mode for example.

thank you, It works. After figuring out where the hidden handle is I can shear without the single tap. I need 20 mins of frustration to figure out where that hidden handle is.
