JamesinNZ Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) I have a document that I have been using for years, most recently updated a few months ago and that requires a new update now. But when I try to open it Affinity Publisher just shows "Loading 1 Document" incessantly with no change after many hours. The document is not large--only around 63mb--so I'm not sure what the issue is and the programme gives me no information to help diagnose the situation. What do I do? I am attaching the offending file, and note that other documents open OK. 01214 Pen-y-bryn Visitors Guide.afpub Edited February 21, 2024 by JamesinNZ Quote
Alfred Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @JamesinNZ. Your file opens OK here. There are some missing linked resources, of course, and some fonts that I don't have installed, but it seems OK otherwise. Please try the attached resaved version. You refer to "a document that I have been using for years", from which I infer that you've been editing the same document over a number of years without ever making incremental backups. If that is the case, I urge you to implement a backup strategy so that you have a recent previous version available if the current version resists all attempts to open it. 01214 Pen-y-bryn Visitors Guide resaved.afpub Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)
JamesinNZ Posted February 21, 2024 Author Posted February 21, 2024 Thank you very much for sorting that out for me--and yes, saving incremental versions is something I'll do from now on! Alfred 1 Quote

Old Bruce Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Your document has a bunch of missing files (photos) and a quick look in the resource panel shows them to be on a cloud service. The file opened here quite quickly so your problem may well be the files being stored in the cloud. missing pics removed Pen-y-bryn.afpub Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. JamesinNZ Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 I'm trying to edit this document again, and again it just won't open (it shows "loading 1 document" and never progresses, even though all the photos have been loaded from the Dropbox folder where they have been kept). How do I rescue the document the way you managed to do a few months ago, and how do I prevent this from happening in the future? Quote

Do you have an account with iCloud or another cloud storage service that you could try instead? Dan C Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 You might also wish to try the steps outlined in the below FAQ regarding this issue - I've not seen this from Dropbox folders previously, as the FAQ mentions this is usually iCloud based. If the Affinity apps have 'Dropbox' listed in the above Settings location, I'd recommend unticking these and restarting the app, to see if this helps Quote
