How do I switch to an alternate glyph within a font set?

Recommended Posts

I have a font set that has a few different letter (glyph) types. Some are fancy letters and some are plain.

For example, There are 3 capital letter B's I can choose from in the font set.

How can I set my keystroke to an different glyph to display the alternate?

You can use the Glyph Browser to select any glyph.

But your font may also have OpenType features which give access to the alternate forms.
Highlight the text and then take a look at the Typography Panel to see available features.

What font is it?

Oh cool! I found it, and it works!

Right now, the only way to get to this tool is like this:  Window>Text>Glyph Browser.

Is there a way to add the glyph browser to the Context Toolbar permanently?

Thank you!!!

No, the Context toolbar can’t be configured by the user. In any case, the Glyph Browser is a Studio panel, not a toolbar element.

Is it named something else?

In Preferences/Settings > Shortcuts > Publisher Persona ; Window menu, it is named:
"Studio ▶︎ Glyph Navigator/Browser" (not sure which word is used…)

Hi @Humbucker beside using glyphs panel i would advise you to also get familiar with "Typography" panel where you can choose between "Stylisitic alternates" that allow single glyph change or "Stylistic set" wchich you can use as an overal alternative for the whole text.
To bring up the panel you can go to Text → Show Typography or use the Ctrl+Shift+T shortcut. This panel is available in the hole trio: APh, ADe, APub.

Note: Stylistic alternates is a feature that allows to put several glyphs on the same Unicode character and selecting which glyph that should be displayed when the font is used. You should also be aware that not all fonts provide "Stylistic alternates".

Below you can see "Stylistic alternates" in Arial font↓
