Some text characters replaced when opened in Affinity programs

Recommended Posts

The opening a PDF file some of the text characters do not display correctly, in both Publisher and Designer. However, if opened within the Edge browser everything is as it should be. All required fonts are installed for the document.

Publisher and Designer V. 2.3.1

Windows 11 Pro

V. 22H2

OS Build 22621.3085

Hi Nick, this looks like the same bug that was reported in the thread below. It looks like you have ligatures in your PDF.

What app was the PDF created with? If you have access to the original file and app, try turning off auto ligatures in that app and re-exporting the PDF.

Or, if the PDF was created in Affinity originally, make sure that the Export options say to embed the full fonts, not a subset. (I'm not sure if this is applicable when other applications create the PDF file.)

Thanks for prompt responses and sorry I missed finding the bug as previously reported.

Not sure what program the PDF was created in. Its a tutorial created by a gentleman called Chris Hildenbrand titled "The ‘somewhat Helpful Hints’ for Affinity Designer"

I'll have a look at the other thread.

Thanks. That was created in Publisher 2.3.0, probably with the font subsetted rather than fully embedded.
