Resource Manager Constantly Crashing

Recommended Posts

It's quite simple and I've replicated it several times: Click on the Resource Manager, the program crashes.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Tried it with a new file, and with a small file, like the Business Card setting.

2. Turned off hardware acceleration.

3. Uninstalled the program and reinstalled it.

(FWIW I checked Font Manager and Section Manager. They load fine.)

But every time, when I click on Resource Manager, there's a pause of three seconds, and the program disappears from the screen.

FWIW, here's my device and Windows specifications:

Device name    DESKTOP-KG15M9N
Processor    AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six-Core Processor              3.60 GHz
Installed RAM    32.0 GB
Device ID    AA1C5FF6-C489-4198-BD50-05809B0FD5F5
Product ID    00326-00847-06286-AAOEM
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch    No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition    Windows 10 Home
Version    22H2
Installed on    ‎5/‎27/‎2020
OS build    19045.3803
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

(Otherwise, I love the program, except with all its features, I can't help but use them!)

Ideas?

Hi @Peschel Press,

Are you experiencing the issue with Resource Manager in all three apps or just one app?

If you haven't done so already I would try a factory reset of the app in question...

Hold the Ctrl Key while launching the app and when you see the 'Clear User Data' window, leave the first three options checked and then hit Clear and let the app finish launching and then see if you experience the same issue with Resource Manager...

Note: This will reset any UI customisation you may have made to the app, i.e., to the toolbar and tools so these will need to be reset.

Is it possible to post the latest crash report from your app, these can be found in the following locations

Photo
%USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Photo\2.0\CrashReports\reports

Designer
%USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Designer\2.0\CrashReports\reports

Publisher
%USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Publisher\2.0\CrashReports\reports

Responding to Hangman's question:

1. Interesting. Both Photo and Designer did the same thing.

2. Factory reset: Will that do anything after I uninstalled the app and downloaded and installed a new one?

3. Attached are the reports. I used Designer much less than Photo or Publisher, so it might be easier to find the crash report there.

It seems clear that it's not the apps that are a problem but something on my computer, so any ideas you can give me will be very much appreciated.

Bill

That depends on how you performed the uninstall. A standard Windows uninstall of the apps does not delete the user-data created by the apps, and in that case, yes, a Factory Reset can make a difference.

Hi @Peschel Press,

As ever, @walt.farrell has faster fingers than me and beat me to it...

I would definitely try a factory reset of one app initially, e.g. Publisher and I would also reboot your PC and then see whether or not on Reopening Publisher you still experience the same issue with Resource Manager.

If you do then I think it's safe to assume, as you reason, that it's possibly an issue on your Computer, though what the issue is will be difficult to determine...

If you don't then I would do a Factory Reset of the other two apps as well.

Hi @Peschel Press,

Thanks for trying the factory reset. It’s a really odd and I think unique issue and probably one for the Serif team…

I can’t immediately think of any other things to try though others here may have some ideas…

I don’t know whether there is a clash between the Affinity apps and other software you may have on your PC but hopefully the crash reports you posted earlier may provide some clues…
