hello when I edit in affinity designer for example I get an error message, it already made me lose a project I forgot to save, and if I save the project it just tells me it's already open in the other software.

Are all of your applications at the same release level?

Do you have sufficient space available on your C drive?

Hi Jinkah,

Welcome to the forums :)

Please could you tell me if this happens with all files or just this one? If it only happens with this one file please could you provide a copy of it and tell me the last edits you remember making to the file please could you also tell me if this happens when using File edit in from any of the Affinity apps or is it just from Photo to the other Affinity apps? If you manually launch Designer and then try and do File > Edit in Designer does this issue still occur? If it does please could you try opening the app with the ctrl key held down and when the reset menu appears hit select all and then reset to see if this solves your issue?

I usually open a program directly from my task bar when I want to create a project, and from the project's .af when I want to resume an unfinished project. When I do edit to, I don't have the program I want to edit pre-opened, but I tried to open it before doing modify in, but I have the same problem.

Hi Jinkak,

This is quite an unusual issue its not one we have seen reported before so it may take some trial and error to solve this please could you confirm if studio link works within Affinity Publisher?

Hey jinkah,

Could you upload the .afmigrate file to this private Dropbox folder please - https://www.dropbox.com/request/3NqS3zOjJDOaM1F7m7zx

We should be able to rename it and recover the file.

I'm not sure why this is consistently happening for you, though.

@Chris B  The software tells me that afmigrate is in user/appdata/roaming/affinity/... but I don't have an affinity folder in roaming, but I do have an .affinity folder in my user folder but it doesn't contain a migrate folder.

It might be useful to confirm which versions (EXE/MSI, or MSIX) of the V2 software you have installed.

  1. A screenshot of the Windows Start menu, e.g., something like this:

  2. Then, we could try to check what @Chris B just wondered about. Whether you have a mixture (which is what I was thinking about, too :) )

To figure out whether your apps are installed as MSIX or EXE/MSI, you could try starting to Uninstall each of them.

  1. In the Start menu, right-click on one of the apps and choose Uninstall.
  2. If the app was installed via MSIX, you should get this:
    image.png.fcfe015907c94e1b824f8c8e340bb367.png
Do not click that button. Just click somewhere else outside of that dialog window.

  3. If the app was installed via EXE/MSI, you should get something like this with a list of a bunch of apps:

Could you also try the following:

  1. Run all the Affinity apps up and open a document
  2. With a document open, click the File menu
  3. Close the apps
  4. Navigate to: C:\Users\yourusername\.affinity\Publisher\2.0
  5. Inside this folder, you should see a log.txt, please attach it and then repeat for the other remaining apps

We want to make sure that the apps are all talking to each other correctly.

Hey jinkah,

That doesn't sound right. They should have recently been modified.

I would uninstall everything and then do a fresh download of each of the apps and install them to the default location. Did you move the apps to your D drive at some point?

Can you try my suggestions above, @jinkah?

Thanks for confirming you have the MSIX versions, and, if that's what your earlier screenshot showed, that you only have them. Your earlier screenshot confuses me a bit because it's not how my Windows Start menu looks.

At this point I can only suggest going with @Chris B's suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling.

It is very puzzling that your log.txt files are so old. Their content is also strange, unless you edited them before uploading. My current log.txt files from the MSIX versions all start like this, with timestamped lines:

[2023-12-09T09:49:35.601-0500] Affinity Designer 2
[2023-12-09T09:49:35.602-0500] IsSandboxed: Yes

Begin check for updates...[DXCore] Found 3 adapters

but yours are missing the timestamp info.

Perhaps we could also see a screenshot of your .affinity directory, and of (say) .affinity\Designer and of .affinity\Designer\2.0 in case they reveal anything?
