Using Affinity for conversion of 35mm color and black and white negatives

Recommended Posts

I will e using my Fuji XT5 and the 30mm macro lens to digitize 35mm negatives. Can I use Affinity to then create positives in my MAC or do I need a plugin? I heat that many people use negative scan pro but that only works with Lightroom which I do not have or intend to get. If I can convert in Affinity alone is anyone aware of ay tutorials; if I need a plugin compatible with Affinity, any suggestions?

@PTB With your Fuji, are you photographing color or B&W negatives? Are you planning to end up with color or B&W positives, or both?

If you are starting off with color negatives, I'd probably convert to color positives, even if you plan to end up with a B&W or toned B&W image. Having Red, Green and Blue Channels available gives you a lot of flexibility to adjust tonality of different colors in your image. See the tutorial Walt referenced.

If you are starting off with B&W negatives, it's a fairly simple process. Simply Invert the B&W negative to positive, then use Curves, Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Recolor and other adjustments layers as desired.

No plugins or profiles are required, whether processing color or B&W film negatives. You can do it all within Affinity Photo.
