Ah yes, Command - D for deselect doesn't work. Assigning a different key doesn't work either so deselect is completely broken.

It isn't fixed in v2.3 beta either. I hope Serif will fix it in this release. It is one of the reasons one buys a keyboard for the iPad and programs like Affinity: a great time saver and much more convenient in use than the iPad interface and pen.

I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here. Everything follows suit. Just everything.

Thanks for letting us know. I've bumped this issue with development again and passed on your comments!

Hi @Sean P

Could you add to this bug - or make a separate is that is how you work - that hitting the ESC key should also deselect a selection. This is not a configurable action, this is how it works in Designer for macOS.

Thanks!

You can change the shortcut for Deselect. Have you tried configuring the Globe key to generate Esc, and then changing the application Shortcut for Deselect to Esc?

(It still probably won't work until the bug is fixed, but it ought to be possible to set it.)

Hi Bits Arts,
I have added this - are you using a regular Mac Keyboard or a iPad Magic Keyboard? I only ask as the iPad keyboards do not have an Escape key by default, so you have to configure the Globe key to become an Escape.

Yes, I have tried several key combos on the ipad keyboard (smart folio type) and none work.

If there hadn't been an ESC key on my Apple keyboard, I wouldn't have had time to report here, but would have been standing from morning to night throwing rotten eggs at Apple's windows in Cupertino.

I use this magic keyboard for all Macs and iPads with my iPad Pro 2022 🙂

Just verified both control + D as well as ESC on a non-Apple keyboard, both now works, thanks!

Expect them both to work as well when I will verify on the much lighter and better Apple keyboard later this evening.

Thank you so much.  Tested and working.  That is fantastic.  A software company that listens to its users.  How refreshing.

That is great news! Thank you both for the conformation :)

Hey @Sean P

ESC works with a regular selection of objects, but if I select some text in a text frame, ESC has no effect.

In Affinity for desktop, the first time I press ESC, it deselects the text selection and the second time it deselects the text frame.

I think that scenario should also be handled by ESC. 🙂

Thanks for that! I'll get that logged as well :)
