I am a new user of Affinity Publisher and it's hard to work because no matter what font I use, or what size, the type is pixilated on my monitor and it's hard to work. The type is clear in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. What can I do?

What does the Layers panel show for the kind of layer your text is in?

I would expect to see that sort of pixelation to be seen in Photo, under many circumstances, because Photo always shows you the document ‘at a pixel level’.

Are you sure that you have the applications the right way round in the description of the issue?

Document resolution = 72 DPI and menu - view - view mode - pixels ?

To RC-R - It is a regular layer.

It is not clear what you mean by "a regular layer." It could be a Frame Text, Artistic Text, or some other layer type.

Also, as @RM f/g mentioned, if you are in the Designer persona of APub, you may have enabled one of the pixel view modes.

This is to Garry P. : The type in my Affinity Photo is very clear, the same for Designer, but very bad for Publisher. I don't understand what you mean by "having the applications the right way round in the description of the issue?" Please explain.

The type is very hard to work with the way it is. I may be using the incorrect terminology ... but the type looks like an image looks when it's pixelated. See my new attachment. Can you help?

This is to RC-R ... Hello. The layer is a Frame Text. I am in the Designer personna. I checked the view modes and you are right. I was in the Pixel mode. When I switched to "View>View Mode>Pixels (Retina)," it cleared the text. A BIG thank you!

Please provide a screenshot of the entire APub document UI including the Layers panel with one of the pixelated text layers selected.

Glad to see you got it sorted out.

Why do you activate any of the two pixel modes at all instead of remaining in APub's vector mode?

@AprilSpring, also, note that the Pixels (Retina) mode will not remove the pixelation from the display, it just makes it less obvious than with the other Pixel view mode because it renders the view using a finer pixel grid. (You can see this by zooming in in either of those modes.)

Perhaps the default shortcut was pressed

Maybe. But then you don't need to switch from one to the other pixel mode but just deactivate the first.

And the same shortcut applied again will do that since it is a toggle.

In the publisher persona the viewmodes are not a default on the toolbar as opposed to designer.
One has to add it themselves or view the viewmode through the menu.

Just for the sake of completeness in APub V2 for the Publisher & Designer personas (as well as in AD V2) there are additional view mode choices that can be added:

These choices are also on the View > View Mode submenu, & there is a default wireframe shortcut for "Last Used" which could trigger another puzzling display mode if typed by accident.

And that key is CTRL+Y which is the default for windows for redo but in the affinities it was changed per V2 to CTRL+SHIFT+Z.
See https://www.howtogeek.com/766591/how-to-undo-and-redo-on-a-windows-pc/

For Macs, it is CMD+Y.

Well, I certainly appreciate all of your comments and help. I went through them all and think I'm finally straightened out. I am a new user to Publisher and Designer, though I've used Photo for a long time. I see that I did a lot of things the hard way or in error and I thank you for setting me on the right path. My type is clear now and not pixelated. Thank you very much.
