debraspicher Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Well, this is an unexpected nuisance. In this file there is a layer for corrections around the mouth (lots of food crumbs). The first image is as it should look, but when using Lanczos Non-Separable in File>Export for Resampling Method and exporting to a smaller size (in this case 33.3%), the lines are visible. As it should appear: Vs... File>Export[Resize 33.3%] with Lanczos Non-separable as the Resambple option with NO merged layers): On one hand, this probably means that the individual layers are resampled using the method we chose in the File>Export window? This is good because we need this level of control. The downside?: It creates artifacting that can be seen around the edges of a layer that has transparency (so heal brush work and so on...) when using the sharpest option from what I can tell is Lanc Non-Separable for downsizing... The "fix" is to use Merge Visible before exporting and that way there's no layers in which to create edges around... a bummer. Designer1 1 Quote

Antialising when exporting JPG and PNG is not optimal, especially with typography, round letterforms. This has been reported here in the forum several times. Unfortunately, Serif has not yet done anything to improve this. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/186456-affinity-210-better-antialiasing-required/#comment-1097044 Quote
Staff Callum Posted October 11, 2023 Staff Posted October 11, 2023 Hi debraspicher, Would you be able to provide a copy of the file along with steps I can follow to replicate this problem so I can log this with our developers to be improved in a future update? You should be able to upload it to the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/6PG64Z95ib7DD45kZvUe Thanks C debraspicher 1 Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
Verificate Quote

NotMyFault Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 This has been reported before. Would be a surprise if Affinity says anything else than „works as designed“. Yes again. The older reported was simply downscaling at export (no matter what resample method) to get artifacts. debraspicher 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.
