Table Logic When Copying and Pasting Multiple Rows Of Data

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to understand the logic of being able to copy and paste multiple rows of table data from and to a table created in Publisher:

  1. It is possible to copy multiple rows of data from a table created on page to another table created on page
  2. It is possible to copy multiple rows of data from a table based on a Master page to a table created on page
  3. It is not possible to copy multiple rows of data from a table created on page to a table based on a Master page yet
  4. It is possible to copy multiple rows of data from a table created in a third-party app (e.g., Apple Pages and Numbers) to a table based on a Master page (albeit for some reason the pasted data skips the first row)

Question
Why can multiple rows of data copied from a table based on a Master page be successfully pasted to an on-page table but not vice versa when multiple rows of data can be copied from a third-party table and pasted to a table based on a Master page?

Hi @Hangman,

I'm leaning towards this being unexpected behaviour, as despite a table being a master page object you're fully able to edit it's contents (other than the actual formatting) so I would expect it to at minimum copy the content of the table in similar to what's happening with the 3rd party app copy/paste, so i've logged this with the developers.

Hi @NathanC,

I would agree... one thing I forgot to mention in the original post is that you can copy and paste individual lines of text (cells) from the on-page table created in Publisher to a table based on a Master page...

Many thanks for logging... :)

Any update on when this will be fixed?

It's still happening in Publisher v2.3 as of Dec 25th(yes, I am working on xmas day 😞

It's really tedious having to retype the same information over and over!

Just tried typing the data into LibreOffice Calc and copy/pasting from there. It works!
So I have a workaround of sorts...

Another workaround (within APub only) would be to choose "Edit detached" for the parent master page before pasting the copied cell content.
