Crop problems ipad.

Hi, I'm trying to crop an image to size.

I using 'resample' to print passport size.

When I add a value of 26mm..it snaps to 9.4. Or both dimensions snap to 1..1.

When it actually does take the values..I click apply and it is totally pixilated. I set it to 300dpi. Original is 12mp.

It's driving me insane!

Is there any help out there?

See also if the iPad APh v2 online help may give you some possible hints here ...

• Changing image size (scaling and resampling)
• Cropping and straightening
• Changing canvas size

No idea why but on the iPad version I have to do this in 3 Resize document steps:-

1. Increase document DPI to 1200 or more otherwise 26mm @ 72 dpi can’t be anything other than pixelated. 

2. Change from pixels or whatever to mm dimensions if your document is not already sized in mm.

3. Change dimensions to 26mm. Job eventually done.

 

Note you chose 300DPI which cannot give an exact mm size and the document would end up at 26.1 mm as you can’t have fractions of a pixel for a document size.

Looking back through this forum I can find an exchange where an iPad user asks how the orientation of the spiral cropping guide can be changed on the iPad version . . . In 2017. As far as I can tell this is still not possible, making this feature useless. But I  note that the orientation in the tutorial accessed from this site differs from that on my version of Affinity Photo 2 for iPad. Have I missed something?

This thread was to do with changing image dimension units and nothing to do with cropping?

Can you post a screenshot or a recording of what you are doing as the spiral guide can indeed be easily rotated in both V1 and V2 of Affinity Photo, which are you using?

Thanks for your reply. It does say ‘Crop problems iPad’ at the top of this page!

Your two screen recordings show the crop frame being rotated, but don’t specifically re-orientate the spiral. But it turns out you’re right anyway, as the blank button that appears to the left of the Rotate button (to which there is no reference in the ‘?’ button guide as shown in my recording) does exactly that!

Interesting. There is a Tooltip if you hover over the button with a mouse or the keyboard cursor, but I would expect ? to include it, too, It is in the Help: https://affinity.help/photo2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_crop.html

Your recording was made with ‘Show Touches’ toggled off, so the moment when you press the ‘?’ button (and, indeed, the fact that you press it at all) isn’t obvious.

Yes I see the reference in the link you posted now, but note that it doesn’t mention where the button is. I don’t use a mouse or keyboard when I’m using my iPad.

Where can I toggle ‘Show Touches’? 
I don’t mean to be rude, but isn’t it obvious that I have pressed ‘?’ Button just after selecting ‘Spiral’ and just before the button labels screen appears?

Show touches is under settings.
I have never used the ‘blank icon’ button as it is easy enough to mirror the spiral as shown in the screen recording.

It’s obvious in retrospect, but I can’t have been paying close enough attention when it all flashed past my eyes! ‘Show Touches’ would have helped to make the sequence clear.

The list is in the same order as the fields/buttons in the user interface, which is a good hint where that button is located
