Will Gunter Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Affinity Publisher file corrupt. Size of file is not 0kb, but I cannot copy pages from this file to another. I've read about a dozen posts with my same problem, and I see no resolution other than to share my problem and upload my file. File was saved onto a USB stick. I also tried copying it to my computer and opening, but did not work. Here is what I'm using: Computer: Acer NITRO 5 | Windows 11 Home | 22H2 | 64-bit Affinity Publisher 1.10.6.1665 Any help would be appreciated. I typically back up files, but did not back this one up automatically, and now I have this problem. Thanks! Through Their Eyes Volume One.afpub Quote

On the forum you will find tens/hundreds of cases of damaged files if they were saved on an external drive while working. Therefore, it is recommended to always work on a local disk, and then only back up and share to external disks. 5 minutes ago, Will Gunter said: I also tried copying it to my computer and opening, but did not work. If the file is damaged, copying it will of course not help anything. v_kyr 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605. Because of that, there really should be a warning if one opens a document that has been saved on an external drive directly from it (or from a cloud server) with an option to copy it to the local drive before doing any more work on it. Affinityconfusesme Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 you can ask for a moderator for dropbox link and they maybe can recover it but not for sure. Any help on recovering my file would be appreciated. Thank you! What you can try out is, creating a new doc in APub and then using the topmenu entry ... -> "Document > Add pages from File..." (...aka from your corrupted APub file) ... function in Publisher. As that can sometimes with many luck (i.e. when Easter and Christmas do meet on one day) recover some stuff from APub files. - Though there is of course no absolute warranty of any success here, as if a file is corrupted the hard way then there is no way of any data recovering then. Then that file is for the trash, or the Serif reps have to give it a try with some of their specific custom recovery tools. - I can just extract the included PNGs out of it ... pngs.zip Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

With my Python tools. - Despite the naming I gave them (Af + thumbs), those can extract all PNG files they can find in Affinity binary files. The "afthumbs" cli one can extract from whatever binary file (... so no matter if Affinity files or some other binary file is passed over as an argument), the GUI one instead checks for/after Affinity filename extensions via it's file open panel, meaning will list and allow to select only Affinity files. Will Gunter Posted September 8, 2023 Author Posted September 8, 2023 Thanks for trying. I was hopeful that it could be recovered, at least mostly, because the file size is not empty. That's unfortunate... I'll see if I can get a Serif rep to help. Quote
Pšenda Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 I would try some tools to recover deleted/overwritten files on the disk. Sometimes it may be possible to find and restore an older copy of the file.
