PLANETHUMAN
Hi I've been working with Affinity for a few weeks now and love it. I am using the free trial and am planning on purchasing but I'm running into a huge issue that feels like it's leaving me no choice but to start using Adobe Illustrator... I started working on a project today which was working fine for about 20 minutes. I went to change the font of some text and the program froze and crashed. Now when I restart Affinity and try to re-open the file it is indefinitely stuck trying to open the file. When I try to exit the program I get a prompt that tells me I need to wait to close the program until the file has loaded. All tools are greyed out during this process. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software to no avail. I have been searching for a solution and have tried multiple things but nothing has worked. Please help me get back to using this software as soon as possible as it's vital to my work. Thank you very much.
v_kyr
Which Affinity app and did it generated any crash report? - Look after possible by the Affinity app generated crash reports and attach them here for the mods/devs to take a further look after, in order to find out your crash problems. - Further did you worked with the file locally on your disk, or on an external connected drive, NAS, cloud drive etc.? Staff NathanC Posted August 18, 2023 Staff Share Posted August 18, 2023 Welcome to the forums @PLANETHUMAN, As well as the crash report and confirmation of where the file was saved to that v_kyr's mentioned, the endless loading of that particular document could be an indication that there is a corruption with that file. Could you perhaps provide us with the problem file in question? If you do not wish to share it Publicly I have provided a private dropbox link below. https://www.dropbox.com/request/zVOFMwbYomilxMNeOYx3

Hi I’m on designer. The program has not produced a crash report, it just indefinitely tries to load my files. I can’t still move my mouse and click file, edit, etc on the top of the screen but everything else is greyed out.. I’ve been working with files directly from my hard drive on my computer. None of the tools are usable or respond they are all greyed out. I can click through the right panel with color, swatches etc but they do not function. In the photo I have clicked file but I can also hover over edit and the other options and they will open the drop down menu. It’s almost as if the program thinks it opened properly but it didn’t. Please check if Windows and the graphics card driver are up to date. Another source of error could be missing or damaged .NET components. A check with the .NET Framework repair tool is recommended. https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=30135 Quote MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | INTEL Arc A770 LE 16 GB | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.2161) Affinity Suite V 2.5.6 & Beta 2.6 (latest) Interested in a free (selfhosted) PDF Solution? v_kyr
You can also try out, if resetting the app to it's defaults changes anything to this odd behavior, see therefor ... [FAQ] How do I reset an Affinity V2 app back to its default settings? [FAQ] How do I reset the app back to its default settings? [FAQ] Where are the Affinity V2 apps resources and preference files located? If that doesn't help either, then I would uninstall ADe completely and afterwards perform a fresh new MSI exe based installation. davidlower8
@PLANETHUMAN I have this exact same problem but I am on Mac. I have narrowed down my issue to every time I update my Mac with a new update Affinity Designer does not open ANY files - it just goes into a permanent state of loading. I have to physically ask someone to open a file and save it on their machine and then send it back to me. I can then open the file fine until I update the Mac again. I literally can't use the software in this state. You can see my thread here
