No Umlaut for you! Actually for me.

Odd: Designer 2 (actually Photo and Publisher as well) won’t let me type the capital versions of the umlauts Ä and Ö with my Logitech Combotouch keyboard anymore. Ü still works as well as copy&paste from other apps and the iPadOS keyboard. Designer 1 isn’t struggling and produces Äs and Ös to my heart’s content. And just to be sure: it’s not a font issue.

Unfortunately we don't have a Logitech ComboTouch here out of interest do you have any other keyboards you could possibly try just so I can confirm that this issue only occurs with the Logitech Combotouch?

Hey Callum,

thanks for the quick reply. I don’t want to make this bigger than it ist - it’s just odd. To answer your question: I’ve just linked a MacBook Pro to the iPad and used its trackpad and keyboard. The issue persisted: small äs and ös, no caps tho.

I would hazard the prediction that a restart of the iPad will resolve the issue. At the moment I just can’t interrupt work - and I figured it’s an oddity that could be interesting for the developers.

small update: curiously enough a restart of the iPad didn’t change a thing. No Ä & Ö.

I’m using Apple Smart Keyboard with my iPad Pro, there seems to be a long press new? pop up menu appearing for me on IOS17 beta that includes those characters possibly?

Hello Paul,

with the iPad‘s onscreen keyboard there aren‘t any issues with those characters. It‘s only with external (Logitech case with keyboard, MacBook Pro) that Ä and Ö won‘t work - it‘s only the caps, too, and strangely enough Ü works perfectly fine.

I am not using the onscreen keyboard, I am using the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio.

Same here with two iPads (A12 and M4) with the original Apple keyboard: “Ä, Ö” and also undo “cmd+Z” do not work.
This unfortunately makes Publisher unusable on the iPad.

Can you do a screen recording of what happens, using your external keyboard when you hold the A or E key down, does the on screen menu not appear ?

Oh, yes. If I press and hold the “a” or “o” key, the on screen menu appears and I can select the characters “Ä” or “Ö”.
That helps me until the bug is fixed. 

Thanks Paul! Do you also know a other shortcut for the non-working undo “cmd+z”? For each undo I have to open the “History Panel”

EDIT: Hey, I found out something interesting: I can type Ö and Ä by using the "Caps Lock" key!!!

Sorry I do not know of which bug you speak, you have now found how to add umlauts etc so there is no bug to fix ?

Yes there is a bug because by pressing the Shift key + “ö” an “Ö” should appear but it does not.

But you can press and hold the “a” and select the “Ö” via the on-screen menu.

Or you can press the Caps-Lock key and type the “Ö” or the “Ä”, then press the Caps-Lock key again.

Yes caps lock then letter long press or shift and letter long press gives capitals with extra diacritic pop up menu.
