Selection options, freehand, polygonal in Designer. WISH!

Recommended Posts

I was looking for a selection tool like the freehand selection, polygon selection in Designer. Like in Photo. The restriction at the moment is that you only can select a box, individual or with shift more objects in Designer. When working with complicated drawings, this might give a problem. Like in ISOMETRIC. You cannot select easy in a drawing. Below an example, of how I would like to have a selection option. Perhaps other users have more ideas to this?

The tool you reference in Photo is for selecting Pixels.

If you're looking for that in Designer, it would be in the Pixel persona, if it exists. (Away from the ipad at the moment, so I can't check.)

If you're looking for something that selects complete objects, the Move Tool will let you draw a rectangular marquee to select objects that are fully enclosed, or objects the marquee intersects.

If you're looking for something that would select partial objects, try the Node Tool, which offers a form of marquee selection that is not rectangular: https://affinity.help/designer2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/CurvesShapes/select_align_nodes.html

I want this in Designer, of perhaps in Publisher. Try to select object(s) while isometric grid.. It’s a hell of a job. This feature could/should only select curves and objects, cq groups. Not for pixels. And that is yet not possible in an easy way. Even Photoshop does not have this. Perhaps time for Affinity to make this work.

Sounds like a duplication of, or at least an extension of, this request (and probably others): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/175191-please-add-a-freehand-lasso-selection-tool-for-vector-objects-in-designer-and-publisher/

A quick search of the forums for lasso select vector brings back a list of such requests.

Yes!

The OP knows that. They started the thread because the marquee for selecting objects is limited to being rectangular. The request is for the ability to freely draw a selection marquee instead of being limited to a rectangle.

I completely agree!

A version of the Freehand Selection Tool would make life so much easier in Designer's main persona.

Sure, I know its purpose is mainly geared around parts of a raster image, but batch selecting vector curves using just a box shape is a real pain! Especially on iPad, I regularly find myself wishing I had an easy way to just draw the pencil around a bunch of things I want to grab; but instead, I play the shift + tiny box game, of which I'm not a fan.

Came here specifically to request this feature, so glad to see it already has some backing (albeit not from the devs).
