KDP Print Previewer keeps showing errors when there aren't any

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to upload my puzzle book to KDP and after jumping through COUNTLESS hoops, I'm down to these last two errors... That DON'T exist! Could somebody help me out and let me know how to get past this foolishness? I've been playing around with this crap for over 2 days now and I have come to the conclusion that the problem ISN'T me.

Thanks!

WB

All I can think of is that you have used a Text Frame for the "Solutions Begin..." and the "Thank you for...." text that is going out to, or passed, the edge of the page.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I just double-checked and the frames aren't the issue. They fall within the permitted boundaries.

I'm going to save both pages as JPGs, insert them back into the PDF and upload it that way to see if I get a more favorable result.

I would use TIFFs or PNGs to avoid jpeg artifacts.

It worked for 'Thank you for' but not for the other - for some stupid reason. I then tried 'Solutions' in PNG and it still resulted in an error. I've tried a myriad of different things to try to keep some sort of an effect for that page but it's rejected everything and it's just not making any sense to me at all as to why.

So... This morning I took my LAST stab at reconfiguring some sort of a see-thru effect 'that falls well within the page's boundaries and guess what? It STILL didn't work so I give up. I'm going to go with a plain vanilla page just so I can get this over and done with.

If so, it is worth checking that the clipped text frame does not have boundaries extending the safe zone (even if there were no characters rendered beyond it).

That's not the issue at all. In my screenshot, the text boundary doesn't get anywhere near the restricted area.

I believe KDP's 'Print Preview' feature is currently experiencing a nervous breakdown because there were pages of mine that were not flagged and some of my lettering CLEARLY breached KDP's margins. And there were other pages where my lettering didn't get close to their boundaries, BUT my background images went to the edge of the pages and KDP would not allow those particular pages to be cleared. I had to remove the background images in order for those particular pages to pass their smell test. The placement of the letters had absolutely nothing to do with it. So as far as I'm concerned, KDP's automated violation checker is extremely faulty right now. #MyOpinion

PS - I just remembered, I actually used the 'Subtract' boolean feature to create those see-thru letters, so no boundaries were part of that page anyway.

Maybe it is using text as a reference but in actuality it's the background images being outside of the margins that is the issue. My sister publishes with KDP and KDP can be rage inducing at times.

This is my very first experience with uploading files to KDP and I can SO feel your sister's pain with this mess.

I chose 'Bleed' for these books so I shouldn't be going through any of this foolishness with the background images. How their automated problem-sniffer is acting isn't making any kind of sense.

I guess the only solace I can get from this is knowing that KDP isn't singling me out to harass. Lol

Trust me, you are not alone in your woes, many people have come a cropper with KDP and it's insistent claim that there are errors.

Sometimes, when I use Artistic text, I accidentally click or drag outside the viewable area and leave an empty Artistic text object there. I only see its outline when I do a Select All. Maybe a good idea to check if there are no objects outside the viewable area of your document.

I know now what the problem was in my case. I did what the customer service said but didn't work..tho it gave me an idea. Anyway the email from them is below,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I replicated the issue and found your file contains layers, which is causing the text is outside the margin error.

Transparencies/layers lead to conversion errors and manufacturing errors at the time of printing.

To fix this issue, I recommend converting your file using the “Print to PDF” option. This will flatten any transparencies or layers present in the file. The ideal PDF format will be PDF/X and you can find more information in our Help:
https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/G202145060

For more information on transparencies, refer to our help:
https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/G202169030#transparencies

Once you have fixed the issue, you can re-upload your manuscript and approve the previewer.

For more information on re-uploading the content file, check Help:
https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/G202176900
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realized that I have two images layered in the page, so I deleted one of them and I got no errors. I had few pages of errors and all of them had layered images, I have fixed all of them and now all the errors are gone.

Hope it will help!

I was getting almost the same "issues," though my book is a novel, so no pictures or text boxes. It was showing about twenty pages with characters outside the print area, though these characters did not show up on the PDF file. It had said something about embedding fonts so I went back to my Word file and embedded the font. This was a somewhat complicated process by itself. I then converted it to PDF, uploaded, and the problem was solved. While this isn't the exact problem the OP had, others might find this thread, as I did in a search on my issues, and find it helpful.
