In V2 there is no rotation handle for Artboards in the same way as there is for other types of layer, even with the Artboard Tool.
I don’t know if that was a deliberate change for V2.

However, you can rotate an Artboard, if you don’t want to use the Transform Panel, by manipulating a corner handle.
This works differently on different OSes so move the mouse pointer over a corner handle and look at the Status Bar.
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way to stop a resize happening at the same time so it’s probably not much use.

No, it looks like it's built into the resize function. Using the Transform panel is probably the best way.

Also, though I'm not sure whether this is intentional or a bug, it appears that the Margins can only be Portrait or Landscape. If you have Margins, and you rotate the Artboard, the Margins do not rotate with the Artboard.

At least in the last V1 Mac version of AD, there is no rotation handle for artboards, so it works just like it does now in V2.

Windows, V1:

Hmm. I just retested V1 & if I create a new document with 'Create artboard' enabled in the Layout section of the New Document window, then the rotation handle does initially appear. But after that, if say I deselect the artboard & then reselect it with the Move Tool, or add anything to that artboard, then when I reselect it, the rotate handle no longer appears.

So if you create a new doc in V1 on Windows with an artboard & then deselect it, if you reselect it do you still get the handle? What about creating a new doc without an artboard & then using the artboard tool's Document option to add an artboard to it? Do you still get the handle when you select it?

Interesting.

No, once the Artboard is deselected, the rotation handle disappears. It comes back if I use the Move Tool to drage the Artboard, but that's kind of useless as it can't be reached to perform a rotation. If you move the mouse it drags the Artboard, keeping the handle out of reach. And if you stop dragging, the handle disappears again.

I see the same thing in V1 and on V2 on my Mac. So I think it is probably a minor bug that it ever appears, possibly because it is using the same bounding box draw mechanism that it would use for ordinary objects ... or something like that.

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much practical use for rotating an artboard so probably not worth the effort to do anything about it?

In v2 I've managed to turn artboard with top bar button. Not too intuitive way, frankly speaking. Hope it helps!

That does rotate it & its contents in 90° increments, so it might help in some workflows, I guess.

Weirdly, using the Transform panel's "R:" field will rotate the artboard in any amount one wants ... but not its contents.

Deselect lock children.

There seems to be a bug here.
It is unselected at first>no  result.
Select it first and then deselecting makes it work on windows(afpub beta 2.6)

I think Serif wants us to be only creative in finding workarounds to use their tools.

However if you group the artboard with itself you can rotate at will with the rotation handles.
Note that the artboard background doesn't update straightaway but will if zoomed in/out.

I am not sure what you mean by "it" but (so far) in the 2.5 retail version as long as "Lock Children" is deselected, it works for me in 2.5. No need to toggle it on & off again. Not tested in the 2.6 beta.

By "It" I meant the lock children checkmark.
I haven't had that glitch anymore since.
