How do I create a brush shape like this? I tried using Help but I didn't get anywhere.

Hi Jackamus, that was my question some days ago. I was answered with the link to this vid:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP7eBT6lLWc

where the actual brush creation is around minute 8. Unfortunately the video only shows how to create pixel brushes.

What you and I are looking for is a simple way to create a "true" vector brush following some plain instructions like in your example.

I figured out that you can export your shape as png and then re-import the file via the "create new brush" command from the brush panel but that works not as smooth as I'd like it to.

So I stand here with you and ask for a tut on creating your own shaped brushes. Brushes! Brushes! BRUUUUSHES!!!

Here is my setup at the moment after messing with all the settings I could think of. Jackamus, I noticed your brush is a typical shape, just wanted to know if you just need that brush profile to be vector? I know Affinity will bring more options to vector brushes, but I have to say I am quite happy with this right now, still gives me the feel of inking a graphic but in vector. I am using the pencil tool throughout all this btw.

I've three replies and all unable to help me directly because the vector brush has not been developed enough.

Maybe I need a different kind of brush.

What I'm trying to do is create a brush that I can use to make very short strokes that taper at one end to use a 'feather' texture on a bird I'm illustrating. I imagine being able to 'paint' short strokes and varying the colour of each stroke as required. Can I do this with a pixel brush? If so how do I create one?

THis is my last attempt to try to help Jackamus, I think I managed to get the stroke you are asking about in vector but since only you know what you're looking for then you can obviously dismiss this. And yes you can get very detailed if you went pixel brush on this, no limits there on painting. I just thought you were looking at doing this in vector. Anyway here's a screenshot of me trying to emulate a birds feather texture in tiny tapered strokes like you said, Don't laugh...

HI,

This looks intereresting. How did you create it and how would I do it as a pixel brush?
