Publisher on desktop intermittent pages not printing

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm using Publisher 2.1.0. I have a windows machine running Windows 11. I am printing various graphics (jpgs), swapping them in and out of a picture frame on a page. The weird thing is that some of them will print, and some of them won't. The paper just feeds through the printer. I have tried 2 different printers and the file opened in both Publisher and Designer. If I change the picture, it will print, but if I return to the original, it won't.

I've attached a file. On my computer, at least, the one in the picture frame won't print and the one to the left, if put into the frame instead of the first one, will.

Thanks for any help - this is very strange!!

Bryonie

I think you've gotten a bit confused, You have nested a filled rectangle into the image on the right page, I assume to crop the image to the page, but all you need to do is delete the rectangle, and drop the image onto the picture frame layer, like so...

Hi. Thanks for your answer.
You're right - there was some complication regarding the fact that I had previously cropped the image. This time, however, I've not cropped it and tried to print it out both in the picture frame and on it's own layer, at it's original size, and the printer still just spits it out.

I've attached a new file with it in it's own layer.

Unless I'm missing something, the picture frame on Page 1 in the new afpub file is empty.  If you move the image that's next to Page 2 but not actually on a page, onto Page 1 and click File>Print it should print correctly.

I've attached a file without page 1 (sorry if I wasn't clear about which page I was printing from). I've been printing from page 2, not page 1. Believe me, I've tested both pictures in the frame on page 2, and one prints and one doesn't.

This is working for me but I'm printing the lower-resolution cached version of the images, as they are linked and not embedded but both are printing fine here on 2 printers i have access to.

Can you embed those images, you can do that via Window>Resource Manager and reattach the file here and I'll try printing and see if it's any different.  Also as a test, if you put both images on separate pages and click File>Export>PDF and export the file out as a PDF, do both images print from your PDF reader?

Firstly - I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this.

I've attached the file withe the images imbedded.

I tried printing it just as an image dragged into the file (not in a frame) - no luck.

I made a pdf as you suggested and it printed both images. I have also printed them from InDesign and they worked.

I tried printing the image in Affinity Photo and it worked.

Very strange.

Hi. Has anyone had any further ideas regarding this issue? I've upgraded whenever it's offered so I'm on 2.1.1.

I don't know why it won't print but as a workaround you could try exporting it to PDF and then printing the PDF from outside of Affinity.

Download a free manual for Publisher 2.4 from this forum - expanded 300-page PDF

My system: Affinity 2.4.2 for macOS Sonoma 14.4.1, MacBook Pro 14" (M1 Pro)

Thanks Mike. It's a bit of a bother to do that as I change the contents of the page frequently, but it is at least a workaround 🙂

I'd love to know if other people are having this issue (known issue?) or if it's something I'm doing wrong.
