Unable to develop RAW images on my iPad Pro after Affinity Photo 2.1 update

I only have an IPad Pro at the moment. Whenever I try saving them somewhere in Files… it converts them to JPEG 🤦🏻‍♂️  The only way it develops any RAW images are the ones that are only in RAW format with no JPEG preview… and saved to Files first. The RAW images in Apple Photos are all pretty much useless.

Strange I have few problems with raw in Apple Photos. You may need to revert them before sending to Affinity Photo or saving to iCloud first using the IOS Shortcut. Quick demo of jpg export then revert then orf export.

I’ll try this again, but I know i’ve tried it before with no luck… thanks!

If you don’t have a Mac, your own solution is to ONLY shoot in JPG or ONLY shoot in RAW. Under no circumstances shoot in RAW+JPG.

Uh… Yeah, I figured that out on my own already lol Thankssss! Easy fix for my Sony a7iii, but that still doesn’t solved the problem of the pictures I take with my iPhone.

RAW taken on my iPhone Xs open fine on my iPad Pro, when I use my IOS Shortcut

I have the same problem.

RAW photos taken with my iPhone open as regular JPG in Affinity Photo 2 on the iPad Pro M2.

I checked the settings of the Photos app on both iPhone and iPad.
Affinity is set to use the Apple RAW engine.

What confuses me is that in FileBrowser Pro on the iPad I see in the Photos folder only JPG instead HEIC and DNG.
The images that should be RAW are displayed here as huge JPG files.

Did you try using the IOS Shortcut method of opening your RAW images ?

OMG, I just did a test with my iPhone:

Took a RAW photo in 4:3
Took a RAW photo in 16:9

In FileBrowser Pro:
The photo in 4:3 is displayed as DNG.
The photo in 16:9 is displayed as JPG (about the same size).

In Affinity Photo 2 (on the iPad):
The photo in 4:3 goes right into the Develop persona.
The photo in 16:9 is treated like a normal JPG.

So I assume it is a problem with iOS 16.

Here’s a post on Apple Support about that issue.

I wonder if it could be connected to the OS version? I don’t seem to have this issue with either production or the Beta versions of AP or shooting in RAW + JPG on iOS 16.6 but then again I don’t have phone camera RAWs only CR3 and ARW. (I should also mention that I only have the images in the iPad and don’t use Cloud locations.)

Say what?! Ok… I’ll have to try this. I’ve been opening in the free version of the Lightroom app and opening as DNG.

If you do not use iCloud Photos then you won't have this problem, you will just have the alternative problem, free space.

Thanks Paul, no I don’t use iCloud Photos but sometimes import from OneDrive and that doesn’t seem to have any issues as a location.

iCloud folders will also work ok it is iCloud Photos which is completely separate which has the problem as it is when you take images as raw+jpg in your camera.
