gwilensky Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 It seems to me Affinity Photo has one glaring omission, and that is background removal. The background erase brush is inadequate when what you want to do is extract a subject from the background. Doing it by creating a selection by hand is possible but unacceptable at a time when this feature is available in many other phot editors already. Quote

Yes, it is available in many other editors. Here's an example of the results of such a tool. The problem is that very often it removes too much without the option to 'paint back' those parts (it doesn't create a mask). Pretty useless to me. Staff MEB Posted May 24, 2023 Staff Posted May 24, 2023 Hi @gwilensky, Welcome to Affinity Forums Have you tried to use the Refine Selection button (context toolbar) to help refining the selection? It's a semi-automated (Refine Selection) process that generates a mask (or a new layer with or without mask) which you can later edit if required. Here's a couple tutorials that may help (note these tuts are for V1 but the process is the same): - https://player.vimeo.com/video/130974710/ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djED0ni_THg Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
