Hi Niall O,

This still seems to be working fine here for me, please could you provide a screen recording demonstrating this issue?

Thanks

It's working fine for me, too.

But just as a note, another user has made a similar report:

@Callum  I have posted screen recording Calum and like the othe user who has reported this nothing else had changed I also removed the app and reinstalled  and restarted photo and IPad but same issue.  This issue had occurred on v1 as well but was resolved so think it’s a software issue

Is there any way I can rollback as I have a job to get finished for clients

As I (just) mentioned in the other thread, I wonder if it's a question of which release of iPadOS is being used?

I have updated iPad M1 Pro to latest release after I experienced the issue in case that was causing the problem but the problem remained.

OK. My thought was more that perhaps it was a later update of iPadOS that causes the problem. I'm on 16.4.1, but I've read that 16.5 is out.

I have the same problem where I am unable to open raw files from the photo app. Reading the update details it says that this now only available on m1/m2 iPad models so it seems my iPad Pro is too old. Is it possible to ‘undo’ the update back to v2 as that worked?

My iPad is an M1 2019 model and it still doesn’t work.

1. Can you upload a sample raw file for others to try.
2. Have you tried using the IOS Shortcut 'Open in Photo V2' which often fixes this problem. Install then in Apple Photos, use the share interface with this IOS Shortcut. Example of use shown below if you are not familiar with IOS Shortcuts. (You need to install the Apple Shortcuts app if it is not already installed on your iPad)

I’m having the same problem. It’s so frustrating not being able to open RAW files.

Tried using “shortcut” with no improvement.

Just wondered if others were using OM system cameras? ORF files??

Any update on when it may get fixed?

I only have three ORF file and the IOS Shortcut opens them no problem. Do you have a sample that you could upload for others to test.

I describe myself as an “iPad user”. Ie I am not very good at tech. I have just tried to upload a file from my RAW folder. As these pictures are both jpeg and raw (I presume showing the jpeg picture with a raw file attached) I am not 100% sure I have uploaded a RAW file. How can I check? If I’ve not got this right you may have to talk me through uploading a RAW file from my iPad. - Thanks

If you're Opening the file in Affinity Photo, it will open into the Develop Persona if it's a RAW file, or into the Photo Persona if it's a JPG.

Walt, That’s my problem. I know I’m unable to upload RAW files into Affinity 2, I was trying to upload a RAW file here at Paul’s request.

Hopefully this screen recording of three examples will help you upload a sample raw file. But first open your files app and make sure 'Show All Extensions' is turned on.

Screen recording shows :-
Example 1. First I simply save a file from Apple Photos to an iCloud Folder, you can see the raw file extension, in this case .ORF for Olympus cameras.

Example 2. I edit a raw photo using Apple Photos, then try to save it to an iCloud folder and lo and behold it is a JPG file that is saved to iCloud.

Example 3. I edit the image again using Apple Photos and tap 'REVERT' to return from a JPG image to a RAW image again, which I then 'Save to Files' again and you can again see the image is no longer a JPG but an .ORF file again.

The .ORF file is what you should upload to the forums here from your Files area NOT from Apple Photos.

Paul,

Thanks for those lovely clear instructions. I think it may be showing where the problem lies??. I load my photos onto my iPad strait from the SD card.

My photo in apple photos is marked JPEG+RAW, However when I try to move it to files, it seems to be JPEG only. Do I have a problem with my iPad settings somewhere??

Ah, these combined RAW + JPEG are a problem for the iPad as we have no way of accessing the RAW file only the JPEG.

On my MAC(which I don't think you have), I can simply export original(s) for these problematic RAW+JPEG files and they will be split into a separate JPG and a separate RAW image(s), I then delete the original(s) from Apple Photos and instead import only the RAW image(s).

The quickest solution for anybody is to choose to shoot as RAW or choose to shoot as JPEG on the camera itself and NEVER set the camera to RAW+JPEG.

I have the same issue so I came here. Just want to point out there is a way to get the raw out of photos.
1 open the photo in photos

2 tap Share and the choose “Export Unmodified original”

you can save the raw that way. Then you need to open it in affinity. And at the end reexport to Photos.
But it is very annoying that Affinity poorly integrated with photo library. Other apps work much better. think Photomator and Darkroom which are well integrated. I hope affinity do that too on iPad

You should also be able to use an IOS Shortcut to share from Apple photos directly into the Affinity app of your choosing. Do a search here for IOS shortcut.
