I can't seem to get to grips with the pinning studio.

I want to align a couple logos alongside a few rules of text at a time. Basically, I am making custom bullet points. Thing is that the text's vertical alignment is centre and I am not using a baseline grid (it is for a presentation). Looking at the options in the Help files does not tell me much about the vertical alignment options in the pinning studio.

The issue is that despite the logos being consistent in size, when I choose the same alignment method and offsets, they can be all over the place. Some logos are above, others are aligned the way I want them to. How can I get this to be consistent across the board?

Same settings, different results:

I've done this by using Inline, not Float. Then tabbing from the image to the start of the text. Then adjust the Baseline in Character > Positioning and Transform to get the image placed correctly. But I cheated by inserting a line break at the end of each line of text. You can see how I did this in the special characters chart I uploaded to the first post of this thread:

@MikeTO The issue is that I have multiple lines of text per bullet point, so I suppose I would need to manually place tabs for each line?

Ideally, I would like to turn the symbol into a drop cap.

E: Hold on drop caps actually work. Thought they didn't.

Affinity doesn't let you use images as custom bullets. But you can workaround this fairly easily:

  1. Paste the image inline followed by a Tab at the start of each paragraph of text
  2. Set Paragraph > Spacing > Left Indent to how far you want the text indented - e.g., 0.25"
  3. Set Paragraph > Spacing > First Line Indent to 0
  4. Set Paragraph > Tab Stops to the same value as Left Indent
  5. Adjust the baseline offset of the image if desired using Character > Positioning and Transform > Baseline

Good luck!

PS: If it's a monochrome vector you could also create a font with the character. There are some free font editors out there.

In addition to MikeTO's excellent advice I would add that you can also adjust the size of the pasted image after step 5 by using the move tool and and that image's handles. Note that the bottom of the image will be on the (adjusted) baseline.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Drop caps and in-line pinning work quite well, except that I cannot get text wrap applied to indent line 3 and below

Mike's suggestion above is likely to work better for you than Drop Caps, I think.
