Dear customer service, I'm trying the trial version of affinity photo 2, in windows 10 and with raw files from a canon 5d mark 3. I have a problem with the file size. When I open the file in person developing the file loses size and aspect ratio, becomes a few pixels larger.(for example: if file is 6000x4000 pixels when I open became 6010x4007 pixels). Is it possible to fix this annoying problem with some settings? I never had this problem in camera raw. Thanks Filippo.

Hi @Filippo N.

Welcome to the forums.

I've done some testing with a sample .CR2 file from a Canon 5D MKIII and I get different pixels sizes in different Windows apps.
Raw Therapee 5.8 = 3862x5788
Camera RAW 14.2 = 3840x5760
Affinity Photo 2.1.0 = 3870x5796

I checked using a couple of other RAW files from different makes and models and each app shows slightly different sizes.

I can log this with our developers to take a look, but may be a question of which is correct.

Hi Lee D,

The only correct is camera raw, because respect the aspect ratio 3:2 3840x5760 , the ratio is 1.5.

In  my first question i only write example number 6000x4000 but in camera raw i have exactly your number 3840x5760 that ratio is 1.5 and in affinity 3870x5796 that ratio is 1.497 (wrong)

Thanks Filippo

Wow 2018 that was a while ago and it may still be the case. The RAW engine used has gone through a number of updates since then but I can recheck with the developers to see if this is still by design.

Yes is the same problem from 2018, for affinity developers so this is normal.....but this is a bug....normal is when you can open the file like canon or other brand write in their specifications. I wish somebody resolve it...thanks again

We simply show all the pixels that the array in the camera has shot. Other applications choose whether you want those edge pixels for you, we do not. We can make a request that there is an option to clip to a set size, but that is an improvement, as this is not a bug, the file includes that data.

Hi Patrick, yes I understand. But if camera raw (photoshop)that can be considered a reference for all still.... if they show the pixels that camera brand declares maybe there is a reason. Or maybe affinity will be the future reference ;)... anyway I bypass the "bug" with a macro that cut automatically the correct size. Thanks

I think it should be an option to automatically do this myself. Thanks for coming back to me and Welcome to the forums :)
