New Document window - can it default to templates and can it always only show favorites?

Recommended Posts

In AD1 and AP1, my new document window defaulted to showing me my personalized templates.  I chose one and went on with my work.
AD2 and AP2 show me a new document window that defaults to presets, many of which I will never use, and doesn't default to only showing me my favorites.
What I really want is for the new document window to default to showing me my templates, instead of having to click templates, then click on the folder icon for my templates, then choose my template.
I have looked for a setting to change what New Documents opens by default, but haven't found that.
I have text and some lines in my templates, so I think I can't turn them into presets.
Is there a way to just open my templates when I want to create a new document?
Thanks!

AFAIK, in V2 you cannot set anything to automatically select the Templates category from the list on the left of the new document window.

In V1 this was 'sticky,' meaning if you set it to Templates it would remember that choice the next time you opened the new doc window.

V2 is sticky, too, but only when starting the application. So, for example,

  1. Start the application, switch to Templates in the initial dialog, and create a document based on some Template.
  2. Close, and restart the application.
  3. It will start in the Template section of the dialog.

However, it does not remember what Template folder you were in, so you will still need to choose it from the list shown in the dialog.

Item #3 is not happening for me on my Mac. It always defaults to the New category.

If you actually created a document in step 1 that might be a Mac-related bug.

I did create a document from one of my templates to begin with. I even saved it before quitting AD 2. When I next started AD 2 & clicked on File > New... it returned to the New category. IOW, it was not sticky.

I have no idea if this is a bug, by design, or what.

Don't click File > New. That will always be, as it says, File > New. Just let the dialog come up normally when you start the application.

OK, that works if I have "Show on Startup" enabled but I usually do not so the dialog does not come up on startup.

I've checked on this and the dev's have confirmed that this is expected behaviour.

Lee

Is there a way that I can persuade them that this is not the behaviour that I expected?  After all, it was not like this in AD1 and AP1.

Other than stating that here, no. When the developers say 'expected,' it means the behavior is how they expected it to work.
