kaikaisen Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Hi! im having this weird behaviour which seemingly is a bug and cannot be turned off. Please teach me better So mainly, I work with pre-defined Paragraph styles. When moving text from one Text Frame to another, the style becomes modified and the size is either too small, or too large. The selected text now bears the title "styleName+" Screen Recording 2023-04-09 at 15.59.23.mov It's hard to explain what happens. Hence enjoy this short video showing what I face. Ive opened the styles settings and couldn't find anything related to that behavour. What am I doing wrong? Thank you kindly! Cheers! Quote
firstdefence Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 There was a post no so long ago that had this behaviour, i'll see if I can find it. firstdefence Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 A few questions while I trawl through posts... Where did your text come from, was it pasted? Have you recently resized the text frame? Old Bruce Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Another thing to investigate is the +... in the Text styles panel. Click on the little disclosure triangle/arrow to see more. kaikaisen Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Hi! I usually copy paste from pages documents. I add them through sublime text to kill all formatting prior to entering. It's weird. It only occurs in some parts of the text, it seems like there is some formatting still inside. If i do it on other pages (from the source text) this doesnt seem to apply. I digged a "healthy" and "unhealthy" format. there indeed is a lot of stuff added. the question is "how" or "where from"? Its weird that it adds itself through a page break. To the question of Resizing: No, I usually don't do that. Whenever I reach the end of a page, i open a new one and drop a fresh frame, which i then link to the previous. Ive tried both fresh boxes, as well as copy-pasted ones. The problem is the same in each case. Quote
thomaso Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Try this: 1. Go to page 3. 2. With the Text Tool select the entire last paragraph (including pg 4 text), not 1 line only. Don't drag-select but use a 4-fold-click (4 fast left button clicks) on pg 3 only. 3. Assign the wanted style AND avoid the + icon (as mentioned above by @Old Bruce) 4. Delete page 4. 5. Shift-click on the red triangle at the right edge of the text frame on page 3. This should auto-create a new page + auto-create a text frame + make the text flow with a constant style. kaikaisen Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 Hi! The auto-Create way of doing things works out. I didn't encounter it while doing so. It still doesn't answer where it's coming from, but I'm happy to continue working like this. If this behavior happens again, I will surely be able to share more details. Thank you all for supporting! Although "To the question of Resizing: No, I usually don't do that", a resized frame is an often reported issue respectively solution in the forum. Another reason can be triggered by an .IDML import: its text frames can cause confusion for the font size within a frame before the first character and thus can confuse if existing text gets deleted and another gets typed or pasted.
