It is possible, and a couple of the formats, jpg, tiff,png will retain the metadata. Others like jxl or webp, will not, especially if you're wanting to export to SVG or EPS. I just opened the file that I exported as a jpg from Designer in Photo, entered the metadata I wanted and saved it. It now has metadata as a jpg file.
