Affinity Designer for Ipad keeps exporting at 140-150 DPI despite deliberately setting it to 300 dpi when creating the document, then it won't let me resize or convert the already existing document because a tan "help bubble" that says "document" pops up.

Hey yall! So the title basically says it. I have a project due today. When I created the document, as always, I set it to 300 dpi, 2000 x 2000 px.
I sent it over to them as a png as usual, but it was blurry and said it was 140 dpi. I went back into the file to view the size,  but the app won't let me.
Whenever I click resize, or convert document, instead of that window coming up, a small tan bubble pops up that just says "document". I attached a screenshot. It's the same tan bubble that pops up on all of the tools and options when you click the "help" button. So being unable to resize the current document, I tried to make a new one to transfer my work over to. Once again, 2000 x 2000 px, consciously set it to 300 dpi and videoed myself doing it to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, but once again, it's still exporting blurry and stating 140 dpi. There also isn't an option for dpi in the export window, only pixels.

I updated the program, I updated and restarted my ipad. I looked through forums and couldn't find anything on this, and I'm waiting to hear back from support. I've been using this program for a year and this has never been an issue, but I'm bugging tf out right now tbh. Hopefully this can get fixed though.

Hi @Molly Jo and welcome to the forums...

It would be really helpful if you could upload your Designer file so we can take a look at what might be causing the problem you're experiencing...

You’ve posted to the ‘Designer 2 bugs found on iPad’ forum, but the screenshot that you included shows the Designer version 1 user interface. Does the problem occur in both versions, or do you only have version 1?

Edit:

When I created the document, as always, I set it to 300 dpi, 2000 x 2000 px.

The screenshot shows the units set to ‘pt’ (points) instead of ‘px’ (pixels), which almost certainly accounts for the DPI discrepancy that you’re experiencing.

Hey! Sorry I'm not sure how to use this forum correctly but @Alfred: The picture I included was a random file i made just to take the screenshot showing what was popping up when I try to hit resize or convert document. The actual file is in px. Regardless, it's still showing 144 dpi when i deliberately select 300 dpi, and it won't let me edit the size after creating he document.
As for the the screenshot showing designer 2, I'm confused because I clicked the option to upgrade to designer 2 last week so I assumed this was that version. I'm going to look further into this and write back shortly.

It’s a separate installation, @Molly Jo. Go to the iPad App Store, tap on the avatar in the top right-hand corner of the screen to view your account details, and then tap on ‘Purchased’. You should find both versions listed there, with AD2 available for you to download and install if you haven’t already done so.

@Alfred thank you! I tried to download it but it said something about purchasing a license for version 2.  Is version 2 going to be a separate purchase? Or would it just be upgrading my existing program since I just purchase that last year? Sorry for the basic questions, I'm really bad with this sort of thing. If it is a separate purchase financially I can't do it. If that's the case, do you know what could be possibly be causing this in version 1?

Hey! I'm trying to upload the designer file  itself but I don't see an option to do that on the ipad. I can only upload the file itself as a jpeg png etc. I'm confused because on desktop designer i can save the workable files themselves to my google drive without an issue and have many times in the past. Is this an ipad version quirk or am I just not seeing this correctly? Also tried googling this to no avail. I'm gonna yell lmao

Also! Somebody pointed out to me that this is still version 1, I thought I updated to version 2 but I haven't. Even in that case, would you have any idea what could be going on? Like I said I don't see an option to export a designer file on ipad (I've done it on desktop before though).

Hi Molly,

Being a Version 1 file makes no difference...

When you have your original Designer file open you should be able to Save it by tapping on the Document menu and choosing Save or Save a Copy which will create a file with a .afdesign file extension and it's that file we would ideally need you to upload here.

When you create your .png file you would be using Export from the Document menu where you can choose between the different file formats such as .png, .jpeg and so on.

When you are looking at this thread in the forum using a web browser you should see a paper clip icon at the bottom or the window where you type your reply (like this)...

which you can click on to select your .afdesign file to upload... I hope that helps but just let us know if you have any questions or if something doesn't make sense and we'll do our best to help...

Hi @Molly Jo,

I can confirm that there are 2 things shown in your screenshot - firstly by tap and holding on the document menu icon, the 'speech bubble' appears to inform the user of the icon they are selecting, in your case 'Document'.

Secondly, I can see you have selected Document > Resize, as the Resize controls are shown at the bottom of the screen in your screenshot, in the Context Toolbar area.

Here you can change the physical dimensions of the file, as well as confirm the DPI. To see the DPI control, please tap the small white arrow to the right hand side of the Context Toolbar resize options. I've created a quick screen recording showing this below -

I can confirm this is expected, when exporting to raster formats (such as PNG, TIFF, JPEG) the document DPI will always be used, as set following the above steps.

I can confirm that V2 of the Affinity apps need a new license, which requires a new purchase - however you are welcome to continue using V1 if you do not wish to upgrade at this time.

Can you please confirm the documents DPI, through the Document > Resize options for me?

Many thanks in advance!
