sulcata Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Using Publisher 2.0.4 on Windows 10. Within linked text frames, hitting "Backspace" will cycle formatting of the text that FOLLOWS the cursor, then clear it entirely, before finally letting me actually use Backspace to delete breaks that precede the cursor. walt.farrell Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Some things are not clear from your video: What did you do at 6 seconds in to change the text so it became blue? What characters precede the text? It would be helpful if you could provide a sample document, already setup so pressing Delete demonstrates the problem, and give us that sample. Then we can see in detail what you have in the document and we can better figure out what's happening. Thanks. sulcata Posted March 6, 2023 Author Posted March 6, 2023 Hello and thank you! 1) That's from me hitting delete. 2) The characters preceding this spot are line breaks. Here's that exact page (and only that page) from the document, attached to this post. Forgive the large filesize. I appreciate the help!! delete_error.afpub walt.farrell 1 Quote
Staff stokerg Posted March 7, 2023 Staff Posted March 7, 2023 Hi @sulcata, If you edit the Text Style called 'Anchor - Ability Name' and set the Next Level to Same Style, you'll then be able to delete without the text style changing. I've ran this past the QA team and they are going to get this logged with the Dev team, as in this case pressing backspace, shouldn't be going back a level. Quote
Neil Parsons Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) I get the same issue on a Mac using the current Beta version. Very irritating - backspace cycles through the styles rather than just deleting the previous character.. I didn't find that the fix above worked for me. Edited March 23, 2023 by Neil Parsons Quote
Thomas Brissot Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 I have the same problem on version 2.5.5. I'm wondering, a year and a half after this initial post, is there a plan to fix this bug? Quote
Neil Parsons Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I’m on the latest beta using a Mac. Although this problem seemed to disappear for a while I am now getting that same issue again. Very irritating! It may somehow be to do with the setup of styles, but if so I’ve not worked out the cause yet. Quote

I've run into this issue and have resolved it by editing the Text Style that text is changed to when backspacing (see screenshot below). MikeTO Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 To clarify, this is not a bug, it's the way the Next Style feature works as pointed out by stokerg and Brian_J. If you don't want to disable the Next Style option but you want to backspace from the start of a paragraph to the previous paragraph, press Shift + Left Arrow to select the paragraph break before pressing the Delete key.
