freezing when importing brushes

I have an issue in 2.0.4 when importing brushes that it freezes up. Was that issue fixed in the latest beta version?

Hi tzvi20,

There have been some fixes on the general performance of adding brushes but as far as I can recall, there were no issues with freezing—just a delay. Are you suggesting when you freeze the app never recovers?

Are you part of the beta test or are you asking this question to see if it's worth joining?

I did just see an issue from 2021 with importing .abr brushes but there doesn't seem to be anything newer in my search results when I look for this kind of issue.

if I click on the app while importing while brushes it causes the app to stop responding which then I have to shut it down.

How big is the file that contains the brushes that you're importing? If we are talking a couple of GB then the app may go into Not Responding whilst it loads the brushes. If I sent you a private Dropbox folder that only our developers could access, would you be happy to share the brushes so we can investigate? Once the issue has been dealt with, the brushes will be removed.

it may have been several GB which may have been the cause. I uploaded a small sample of a few thousand brushes. They are ABR brushes.

Thanks for that. I duplicated the brush pack so I had 18 copies of them and imported them all at once. It took approximately 15 seconds but at no point did I go into a Not Responding state. 

This was using Beta 2.1.0.1730

I guess the brush import speeds improved in the beta versions because it took overnight to import about 7000 brushes into 2.0.4. I assume these speed changes will be incorporated into the next retail version.

Well it seems OK for me so I'm hoping whatever improvements I've seen will be seen by everyone.

I just tried a test comparing 2.0.4 vs 2.1.0.1730 on my Win 11 system. After the install raster_brushes.propcol is about 2.4 GB for each.

2.0.4: Import took 39.5 seconds
2.1.0.1730: Import took 3.5 seconds.

Good job improving this function! (It's been a real bother since the beginning of V2.)

On the other hand, I just added some Assets using Publisher 2.1.0.1742, and it took almost a minute before the application became usable. So it's either not fully fixed, or has become broken again
